Massive MK82 bomb discovered while clearing a path for logging.

GD&TĐ - While leveling land to build a road for the exploitation of acacia and eucalyptus forests in Hue, locals unexpectedly discovered a large bomb buried deep underground.

On May 22nd, the leaders of A Lưới 1 commune ( Hue City) confirmed that functional units had safely handled an MK82 bomb, an unexploded ordnance from the war, that had recently been discovered in the area.

Earlier, the multi-tasking team of the Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) in Vietnam received a report from local residents about an object suspected to be a bomb. Upon accessing the scene in a mangrove forest covering approximately 2 hectares, authorities determined it was an MK82 air force bomb, a type of bomb with significant destructive power.

The bomb, approximately 1.7 meters long and weighing hundreds of kilograms, lay 1.2 meters underground and was only unearthed when machinery cleared the area to open a road. Technical inspection revealed that the fuse at the front of the bomb was broken, while the tail end lacked a fuse.

After carrying out necessary procedures, the bomb was safely transported to the NPA's centralized demolition site in Trung Thanh area, Phong Dinh ward, Hue City, to await disposal according to regulations.

The mountainous A Lưới region was heavily affected by war. Therefore, dangerous explosives are frequently found during farming, reforestation, or construction of public works in the area.
