To improve the effectiveness of propaganda on environmental protection awareness, creating a strong change in the actions of religious organizations, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and religious organizations in the province signed a coordination program to promote the role of religions in environmental protection and response to climate change in the period of 2022 - 2026.

Build multiple suitable models

The province currently has 8 religious organizations recognized by the State, including: Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Caodaism, Brahmanism, Bani Islam, Pure Land Buddhist Lay Association, and Baha'i. Implementing the program of coordination to promote the role of religions in environmental protection and climate change response in the period of 2016 - 2022, through practice, with many proactive and flexible methods and approaches, religious organizations in the province have built many models suitable to the specific conditions of each locality and each religion, bringing practical results, being praised, rewarded and replicated.

Typically, the Brahmanical Council and the Bani Muslim Council have established a model of "Residential areas protecting the environment and responding to climate change" in Phan Thanh and Phan Hiep communes (Bac Binh district). At Buddhist places of worship in Bac Binh district, a model of "Buddhist places of worship that do a good job of protecting the environment and responding to climate change" has been built. For Catholics, there is a model of "Urban civilized route" in the area of religious people in Ward 1, Tan An town (La Gi town); the model of "Parish without juvenile offenders" of Tu Te parish, Duc Tin commune (Duc Linh district). Through the construction of models of environmental protection and response to climate change in localities, it has contributed to changing people's awareness in maintaining hygiene, using clean water sources, bathrooms, and reasonable sanitation facilities; Wastewater and garbage are collected and treated in accordance with regulations... bringing practical benefits to people's daily lives.

In addition, from 2016 to present, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province has coordinated to mobilize philanthropists, donors, and Buddhist establishments inside and outside the province to promptly support ethnic minorities and people in areas affected by drought, floods, and storms in the province with an amount of nearly 3 billion VND.

In addition to the achievements, environmental sanitation in some residential areas is not yet guaranteed, especially in some rural areas of ethnic minorities. The situation of households discharging wastewater into rural roads, dumping household waste, letting livestock roam freely in residential areas... still occurs. Along with that, Binh Thuan is considered one of the provinces heavily affected by global climate change... In order to continue promoting the role of religions in environmental protection and responding to climate change, recently the Standing Committee of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and religious organizations in the province signed a Program of coordination to promote the role of religions in environmental protection and responding to climate change in the period of 2022 - 2026.

Accordingly, the units coordinate to promote the movement "All people participate in environmental protection", the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas"... Thereby raising awareness, sense of responsibility, forming habits of environmental protection, responding to climate change in the daily life of religious organizations and followers, religious people, and people. Along with encouraging religious organizations and religious people to increase the use and exploitation of clean energy and renewable energy sources, the units coordinate to replicate effective and typical models of environmental protection at religious establishments, religious community models with many solutions...

Nguyen Van Tri, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, affirmed: This signing program aims to enhance the effectiveness of propaganda on environmental protection awareness, creating a strong change in the actions of religious organizations. From there, encourage and motivate followers and religious people to participate in patriotic emulation movements and campaigns, contributing to building an increasingly green - clean - safe environment.
