Developing tourism with a long-term perspective.

Việt NamViệt Nam08/08/2023

From the beginning of 2023 until now, tourism activities in Binh Thuan province have been extremely vibrant, with an estimated increase of over 82% in the number of visitors compared to the same period last year and a 2.1-fold increase in revenue. With many favorable factors, it is predicted that the province's "smoke-free industry" will soon achieve its targets for this year, thus also planning for long-term development…

Specifically, in the first seven months of this year, the province is estimated to have welcomed over 5.3 million visitors (reaching approximately 79% of the annual plan), while revenue from tourism activities reached nearly 13,450 billion VND (equal to 81.5% of the set plan). Before entering the peak summer tourism season of 2023, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Chairman of the Binh Thuan Tourism Association - predicted that in the third quarter of 2023, the locality would continue to welcome about 2.4 million visitors, averaging 800,000 visitors per month. And statistics from the first month of the third quarter also show that in July alone, the local tourism industry is estimated to have welcomed 847,000 visitors, an increase of nearly 63% compared to the same period last year, with revenue reaching over 2,100 billion VND, while the same month last year only reached 922.3 billion VND.

Binh Thuan province attracts tourists thanks to many favorable factors, including its strengths in beach resorts (Illustrative image).

The above results were achieved thanks to many favorable factors: hosting the 2023 National Tourism Year - Binh Thuan - Green Convergence, the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Phan Thiet - Vinh Hao sections of the expressway being put into use, the destination having strengths in beach and island tourism, and favorable weather conditions for tourism activities... In addition, the efforts of the locality and the entire industry in promoting the image and brand of the destination as "Safe - Friendly - Quality" are also acknowledged, implementing many solutions to leverage advantages to attract tourists. With the strong recovery in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period, Binh Thuan tourism not only strives to achieve the main targets of the industry this year (receiving 6.72 million visitors, revenue reaching 15,900 billion VND) but also considers long-term development…

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement Government Resolution No. 82 on key tasks and solutions to accelerate the recovery and development of tourism effectively and sustainably. Accordingly, Binh Thuan has set forth several tasks and solutions: Promoting the restructuring of the tourism industry towards professionalism, modernity, quality, and sustainability, and continuing to facilitate the attraction of international tourists to Vietnam. Simultaneously, strengthening investment attraction for tourism development with a focus on key areas, concentrating on national tourism zones, as well as developing tourism products and promoting tourism through communication and marketing. Alongside this, support will be provided to tourism businesses, improving the quality of training and human resource development, accelerating digital transformation, and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in the tourism sector.

In implementing this plan, the Department of Planning and Investment is tasked with effectively implementing mechanisms and policies to attract investment, especially from strategic investors, to develop entertainment and resort complexes, international tourism centers, and tourism support services (aviation, accommodation, shopping centers, retail services, etc.) to boost tourist spending. In attracting investment, priority will be given to investing in technical infrastructure and a comprehensive, high-quality system of facilities in national tourism areas or areas with potential for development to create world-class destinations. Furthermore, it will lead the development and implementation of the province's Nighttime Economy Development Plan until 2030, striving to have at least one model area operational within this period after the plan is approved…

For the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the focus will be on linking product development, markets, and connecting tours, routes, and tourist destinations within and between regions, aiming to form a model of linkage between localities with the participation of the national tourism agency and large enterprises. Furthermore, it will lead and coordinate with relevant departments and localities to diversify tourism forms and products, as well as emphasize linkages between tourism and other sectors in the value chain, associated with green and sustainable development and the motto "putting the tourist experience at the center." Next, it will focus on developing the current domestic tourism market and expanding into potential markets with high growth potential, large numbers of tourists, high spending levels, and long stays. At the same time, it will strengthen communication, promotion, and marketing to attract both domestic and international tourists, promoting the image of a safe, attractive, humane, hospitable, convenient destination that "satisfies tourists and warms the hearts of hosts."

Meanwhile, localities will strengthen rescue and emergency response efforts at public beaches, and ensure the safety of tourists during recreational activities on sand dunes. They will promptly address issues related to the natural and social environment in tourist areas and destinations, effectively resolving and handling problems such as unsightly street vending, encroachment on beaches, street vendors harassing tourists, and speedboats that detract from the aesthetics and lack of civility and courtesy in community tourism areas.

Joining forces, provincial industry associations will actively encourage businesses to promote the development of resort tourism associated with MICE and wellness tourism. In addition, they will research and innovate to improve the quality of products and services, and restructure product lines to attract and serve a diverse range of high-spending, long-stay tourists…
