At the seminar, Dr. Duong Duc Minh, Deputy Director of the Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research in Ho Chi Minh City, shared his insights on "Opportunities and Challenges in Green Tourism Development in the Mekong Delta and the 'Space' for Innovative Models Oriented Towards a Green Economy." As a consultant for projects implementing green tourism models in Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Tra Vinh, Dong Nai, and Dong Thap, Dr. Duong Duc Minh argued that green tourism helps localities maximize the use of natural and cultural resources, thereby building a unique tourism image, protecting the environment, and promoting local cultural values.

Accordingly, Dr. Duong Duc Minh proposed several solutions to connect and open up innovative spaces to build tourism value chains and implement unique tourism models. Regarding the co-creation of green tourism products in the Mekong Delta, Dr. Duong Duc Minh suggested that it should be based on two pillars: "shared experience" and "shared nostalgia." This involves creating empathetic signals to allow tourists to immerse themselves in the natural and cultural tourism environment, and creating nostalgic signals to help tourists remember the Mekong Delta more deeply.

Driven by a passion for and pioneering the idea of tourism combined with agriculture, local culture, and natural landscapes, Dr. Ngo Kieu Oanh – an agricultural tourism expert from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – introduced the model of "Smart Salt Tourism linked to Digital Transformation of Rural Communities in Bac Lieu," highlighting its notable successes. Particularly noteworthy is the preservation of the traditional salt-making craft with two unique, highly nutritious products: pinkish-brown salt and pickled purslane. Based on this, Dr. Ngo Kieu Oanh offered several recommendations for developing agricultural tourism, such as investigating agricultural and rural tourism resources according to ecological zones and identifying core products to be incorporated into sustainable development areas in line with green tourism principles. She also emphasized the need to develop a scientifically sound plan to create a comprehensive agricultural tourism map for the Mekong Delta region. This would serve as a foundation for the tourism industry to develop agricultural tourism routes and destinations.

Aiming to develop green tourism, at the seminar, delegates shared 15 opinions related to supporting policy mechanisms; cooperation and connection between tourist destinations to form a tourism service chain. Notably, startups also shared many solutions for developing green tourism, including promoting the exploitation of by-products in agricultural production to increase revenue and serve green tourism development; using natural products; combining local resources with regional culture into tourism products…

At the seminar, Dr. Bui Thanh Minh - Deputy Director of Professional Affairs of Office IV - introduced the "Mekong Green Transformation Network Initiative" to the delegates.
