On March 8, in Hanoi, the Military Medical Academy held a ceremony to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Military Medical Academy's Traditional Day (March 10, 1949 - March 10, 2024). General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense attended and delivered a speech.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Director of the Military Medical Academy, reviewed the heroic years with many achievements of generations of cadres, lecturers, doctors, students, staff, soldiers and workers who contributed to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
During 75 years of construction, fighting and growing, the Military Medical Academy has always strived, regardless of hardships and sacrifices, to fulfill its mission of protecting, caring for and improving the health of cadres, soldiers and people, growing and developing in all aspects, and excellently completing assigned tasks.
During the struggle for national liberation and reunification, generations of leaders, commanders, staff, students and soldiers of the Military Medical Academy overcame difficulties, challenges and dangers; directly participated in combat and served in combat; taught, researched and trained medical staff; promptly met the needs of caring for and treating wounded and sick soldiers and people of all walks of life. Many military doctors of the Academy heroically sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and for the happiness of the people.
Entering the period of innovation, integration and national development, with the spirit of initiative, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, the Military Medical Academy has strived to overcome difficulties and challenges, achieving great strides in training, scientific research, treatment, protection, and health care for the subjects, building the Military Medical Academy into a leading medical center of the Army. The Military Medical Academy has performed well in all three key political tasks: Training high-quality human resources for the Army and the health sector; Researching and developing medical science and technology; Improving the quality and effectiveness of medical examination and treatment.
In building and defending the Fatherland, the Military Medical Academy has also applied and developed new and modern techniques, improved the quality of diagnosis and treatment, and focused on investing in developing key specialties. In particular, the Military Medical Academy has always been a pioneer and leader in successfully performing the first organ transplants on humans in Vietnam. A special milestone was that on December 31, 2022, experts from the Military Medical Academy helped the 103 Military Central Hospital, the Lao People's Army, successfully perform the first two kidney transplants from living donors. This event took place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty; this success has put the Lao People's Democratic Republic on the map of countries with achievements in organ transplants in the world; and to date, it has supported and helped you perform 9 successful kidney transplants.
With outstanding achievements, the Military Medical Academy has been honored to receive many noble awards and titles from the Party and State.
At the ceremony, authorized by the President, General Phan Van Giang awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the Military Medical Academy for "Outstanding achievements in performing the task of helping the 103 Military Central Hospital, Lao People's Army, successfully perform the first kidney transplant from a living donor in Laos, from December 2022 to November 2023, contributing to building and developing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos".
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang commended and congratulated the outstanding achievements of the Military Medical Academy; at the same time, he thanked the central departments, ministries, branches, organizations, Party committees, authorities, and people of localities for their attention, coordination, and creating favorable conditions for the Military Medical Academy, military medical facilities, and military units to successfully complete their assigned tasks.
Promoting the achievements, making constant efforts and continuing to conquer challenges and limitations in diagnosing and treating diseases, General Phan Van Giang requested that each cadre, student and staff of the Military Medical Academy must always keep the passion for the profession, have the spirit of exploration, research, acceptance of new things, mastering high-tech, specialized and modern science and technology; attach importance to the continuity between generations, training, scientific research; and fostering a team of young doctors for the next generation of the country's health sector.
The Military Medical Academy must have a long-term development strategy to become a regional and international center for training, research, application and treatment. In the immediate future, the Academy must continue to strongly innovate, improve the quality of training, scientific research associated with medical examination and treatment, and health care; become a multidisciplinary health science university, oriented towards research, training, and research in military medicine leading in Vietnam, on par with advanced universities in the region.
General Phan Van Giang noted that the Military Medical Academy needs to focus on building a clean and strong Party Committee of the Academy, building a contingent of cadres and party members with strong political will, high solidarity and unity, good at expertise, foreign languages and information technology. Special attention should be paid to fostering political qualities and medical ethics during the training process. Grasping the motto "teaching a profession goes hand in hand with teaching people", "the quality of training of the school is the combat readiness of the unit". Along with that, the Academy needs to continue to implement well the policy of the Army's rear, the policy for people with meritorious services; ensure full policies and regimes and constantly improve and enhance the material and spiritual life of cadres, employees, students, soldiers and workers. ./.
