(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - In early November, the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Economic Science Association to organize a workshop on the current situation and solutions for developing the digital economy in agriculture in the province. The workshop provided important sources of information to advise the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to study and direct the development and promulgation of appropriate mechanisms and policies to improve the effectiveness of digital transformation (DTE) and develop the digital economy in agriculture.
The workshop received the attention of many experts, scientists inside and outside the province, management staff, and business representatives. Among them, there were many start-up businesses, businesses with effective application of digital technology; and OCOP product subjects.
Many difficulties and challenges
The work of digital transformation and development of the agricultural digital economy in Quang Ngai has achieved some results. The most obvious is that farmers have proactively approached digital technology and actively participated in collecting and providing open data to serve the production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products... However, the work of digital transformation, especially the development of the digital economy of the province, still faces many difficulties and challenges.
According to Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Trong Phuong, the work of digital transformation, especially the development of the digital economy in agriculture in Quang Ngai, is still limited in terms of technological infrastructure, causing difficulties in accessing and applying digital technology in agricultural production. In addition, human resources with expertise in information technology in the agricultural sector are still lacking, especially in rural areas.
Currently, agricultural data is fragmented, not digitized and not managed in a centralized and synchronous manner, making it difficult to deploy analysis, forecasting and decision-making systems. The Government has many major policies, but detailed implementation has not yet met actual needs, causing difficulties for localities in the implementation process.

In the process of digitalization, the issue of agricultural data security has not been given sufficient attention. Technology systems are vulnerable to attacks, causing loss or leakage of important information, affecting the business operations of enterprises. Training combined with propaganda, mobilization, guidance for cooperatives and agricultural enterprises, supporting farmers to develop digital skills and knowledge, use digital technology in agriculture, skills in using and exploiting electronic trading platforms, and electronic payments are still limited.
The inevitable direction
Faced with the above situation, at the workshop, scientists, experts, managers and businesses focused on discussing and proposing a number of solutions to develop the digital agricultural economy in the province.
“The agricultural sector needs to accelerate and expand training programs, taking advantage of online training so that more people can participate. People benefit so that they can apply technology to production and put products on e-commerce platforms. In addition, Quang Ngai needs solutions to improve telecommunications and information technology infrastructure as well as complete databases to serve the development of the digital economy in agriculture,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh - Director of the Institute of Business Research (Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics).

According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head of the Faculty of Economics (Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry Branch in Quang Ngai), it is necessary to raise awareness for cooperatives, businesses and farmers about the benefits of e-commerce in finding markets and bringing products to the market. Especially support in setting up websites and e-commerce application platforms. At the same time, promote and train human resources for cooperatives and businesses to implement e-commerce applications better and better.
The workshop provided 20 studies and presentations focusing on exploiting from multi-dimensional perspectives on major topics such as: Assessing the current status and impact of digital transformation and agricultural digital economy on the province's socio-economic development, period 2022 - 2025; proposing solutions to contribute to improving the effectiveness of digital transformation and digital economy in the province in the past time; proposals and recommendations to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial People's Committee. |
In the GDP structure of Quang Ngai, agriculture accounts for only 16 - 18%, while industry accounts for about 52%, trade - services about 30%. Thus, Quang Ngai needs to promote the application of scientific - technical advances, high technology to increase the added value of agricultural production. Many opinions of scientists as well as discussions mentioned fundamental solutions to promote the development of the province's agricultural digital economy in the coming time.
“Enterprises need to improve their capacity and research the market. Agricultural products must meet new technical standards to ensure exports to higher, better and further markets,” Dr. Pham Hoai Nam, Chairman of the Provincial Economic Science Association, suggested.
Currently, in the field of cultivation, many localities have applied science and technology in water-saving irrigation, automatic irrigation operation for rice, vegetables... with an area of nearly 3,000 hectares. Up to now, the whole province has 13 codes for domestic consumption growing areas and 1 code for export growing areas in the field of cultivation. All 13/13 districts, towns and cities have OCOP products, with 130 OCOP products being put on e-commerce platforms.
In recent years, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has promoted the construction of databases, built many software systems for managing growing areas, packaging facilities, managing farming areas and farms... to help modernize the direction and management in the fields of cultivation, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, irrigation...
Digital transformation is an important solution to develop high-tech agriculture and smart agriculture, helping farmers keep up with new trends and times. From there, successfully implement the strategy for sustainable agricultural and rural development for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
