Up to now, teacher Tong Dinh Trung, working at Huong Hoa High School, Huong Hoa District, has participated in the blood donation campaign nearly 30 times. “I started donating blood when I was a student at Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports. Sharing my blood with patients in difficult circumstances makes me happy. Therefore, I have continued to donate blood since then, an average of 3 times a year,” said teacher Trung.
Previously, for many reasons, the blood donation movement at Huong Hoa High School had not developed strongly. However, witnessing the journey of spreading "blood drops" of a few teachers like Mr. Trung and clearly realizing the purpose and meaning of blood donation, many teachers have gradually changed their thinking.
Every year, the voluntary blood donation movement has spread more widely with the participation of many school staff and teachers. Every voluntary blood donation campaign organized by the Red Cross at all levels, everyone eagerly registers to participate. “Huong Hoa High School is currently one of the schools that always meets and exceeds the annual voluntary blood donation target. Each staff and teacher of the school is now not only a volunteer to donate blood but also a propagandist, spreading the good message of voluntary blood donation to the community,” said Mr. Trung.
Similarly, teacher Nguyen Van Que, working at Xy Primary and Secondary School, Huong Hoa District, is also a typical example among schools that regularly participate in blood donation. Up to now, he has donated blood 23 times and has received a certificate of merit from the District People's Committee twice for his achievements in blood donation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Que said: “I started donating blood in 2005. At that time, overcoming my fear and anxiety, I registered to donate the first 350 ml of blood in my life. Later, when I understood more about the benefits and significance of blood donation, I felt happy because I contributed to saving the lives of patients in critical situations. Not only me, but also at Xy Primary and Secondary School, the blood donation movement is growing stronger and stronger. In 2024, the amount of blood donated by school staff and teachers reached 20% of the total blood units in the whole district.”
Blood donation is not a superficial movement to meet targets or compete for achievements, but it is a cultural beauty in the educational environment, affirming the humanity and kindness of this noble act. Chairman of the Red Cross Association of Huong Hoa district, Nguyen Van Minh, said that in recent years, the blood donation movement among school staff and teachers has spread strongly.
Notably, 100% of schools in the district participate in blood donation twice a year: the Spring Festival and the "Summer Blood Drops" Campaign. Immediately after the organization launched the campaign, more than half of the staff, teachers and volunteers registered and participated in blood donation.
From 2022-2024 alone, the district has had 1,818 teachers register for voluntary donation, many of whom have donated more than 5 times. “We appreciate the voluntary donation spirit of teachers in the area. Thanks to the contributions of teachers, the voluntary donation movement in the area has spread more widely,” said Mr. Minh.
Not only in Huong Hoa district, the voluntary blood donation movement in many schools in the area has also received recognition from the government and the Red Cross at all levels. The story about the voluntary blood donation spirit and calling for and mobilizing cadres and teachers to participate in voluntary blood donation by teacher Nguyen Ngoc Vinh, Vice Principal of Vinh Thai Secondary School, Vinh Linh district is an example.
“As a manager, if I want to promote and encourage teachers in the school to participate in voluntary blood donation, I myself must set an example. Thanks to that, up to now, not only me but also many teachers have donated blood dozens of times; some are also members of emergency blood donation groups and clubs in the area,” Mr. Vinh shared. Since then, many cadres and teachers have been recognized and rewarded by all levels and sectors for their outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement and voluntary blood donation campaign.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society Tran Thanh Hai said that recently, the propaganda and mobilization of voluntary blood donation in the province has achieved many positive results. Voluntary blood donation has become a meaningful humanitarian activity that has been enthusiastically participated by all classes of people, including many cadres and teachers.
In 2024 alone, through the following campaigns: National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on April 7, International Blood Donor Day on June 14; "Pink Spring Festival" Campaign, "Pink Summer Blood Drops" Campaign... cadres and teachers of schools, together with cadres, civil servants, public employees, union members, youth, and people in the whole province, donated 10,854 units of blood, reaching 103% of the plan. These noble gestures help the voluntary blood donation movement in the province to spread more and more strongly.
“The volunteer movement has inspired a lifestyle of love, solidarity and noble ideals in the majority of cadres and teachers in the whole province. In the coming time, we will proactively preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, sectors, unions, district-level volunteer movement steering committees, armed forces, and schools to monitor, urge, and develop plans to effectively implement the set contents, goals, and targets,” Mr. Hai emphasized.
