The patient, a 4-year-old child named TTPN (residing in Phu Loi Ward, Can Tho City), was admitted to the hospital in a weakened state, with poor appetite, abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, and a history of intussusception. After clinical examination, ultrasound, and abdominal X-ray, doctors diagnosed the child with intussusception and ordered emergency laparoscopic surgery.
During the surgery, the team observed a 12cm section of intestine filled with hair and food debris causing an obstruction. The doctors performed an abdominal incision, removed the foreign object from the intestine, sutured the wound, and drained the abdominal cavity.
The child's health is now stable, but continued monitoring and care are still necessary due to their weakened condition.

According to Dr. Chung Tan Dinh, Director of the Soc Trang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Specialty Hospital, this is the second case in a short period where the hospital has successfully treated intestinal obstruction caused by a hairball in young children. Doctors advise parents to carefully observe any unusual behaviors in their children such as: frequently sucking on or swallowing foreign objects, pulling out hair and putting it in their mouths, unexplained hair thinning, prolonged abdominal pain, malnutrition, etc. When suspicious signs are detected, children should be taken to a medical facility for examination and timely intervention.
