On June 2, at Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital, the Provincial Children's Fund in collaboration with Center II (Vietnam Association for the Relief of Disabled Children) opened the 2025 Surgery Program for Disabled Children in the province.

The surgery program for disabled children was initiated by Center II in 2006. After nearly 20 years of development, the program has now been deployed in many provinces and cities across the country, including Dien Bien.

In 2025, the free screening and surgery program for disabled children in Dien Bien province will take place at the Medical Centers of districts, towns and cities.

Through screening, 242 children with disabilities in the eyes, teeth, jaws, ears, nose and throat, mobility, burns, and urinary tract were assigned to consultation, treatment, surgery, and provision of assistive devices.

The program continues to accept children who have not been screened and come to the hospital to be examined and qualified for surgery from June 1-6.

To prepare for the program, Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital is fully equipped with facilities, supplies, medical equipment, and human resources to perform surgery according to the correct procedures, ensuring the safety of children before, during, and after surgery.

This year's program is accompanied by leading experts from the Central Eye Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Xanh Pon Hospital, Vinh Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Center... directly participating in surgery for disabled children, especially difficult cases.

Mr. Pham Giang Nam, Director of Dien Bien Department of Health, said that with the difficult socio -economic conditions of Dien Bien, children, especially children with disabilities, are the most vulnerable and disadvantaged group.

The province currently has about 5,500 disabled children, with various disabilities such as congenital malformations, motor, visual, hearing, intellectual disabilities, or disabilities due to accidents.

Most of the children live in disadvantaged families, are ethnic minorities, and live in remote areas where access to high-quality health services is limited by geographical, financial, and cognitive barriers. Therefore, many children do not have the opportunity to receive timely medical examination and treatment or medical intervention.

The free screening and surgery program for disabled children is a humane, practical and meaningful activity.

Over many years of implementation, the program has provided opportunities to heal injuries, improve physical health, light the fire of hope, and help children confidently integrate into the community.

Successful surgeries open the door for children to go to school, learn and develop equally with their peers, thereby building a brighter future.

Since 2019, the program has screened more than 1,300 disabled children across Dien Bien province. Of these, 627 children have had successful surgery, 27 have undergone procedures, 19 have been transferred to other treatment facilities, and hundreds of other children have been supported with rehabilitation equipment as well as home treatment advice.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee gave many gifts to children in difficult circumstances./.
