In a statement issued that evening, Mr. Lapid stated: “The country of Israel is at war. The war is not easy nor is it quick.
It has caused serious consequences that we have not had to bear for many years. The biggest risk is that it will escalate into a war on many fronts.
Mr. Lapid also affirmed that he told Prime Minister Netanyahu to put aside differences in views and be ready to cooperate in forming a narrow "emergency government " to lead the country through the difficult and complicated period ahead.
According to the opposition politician , the formation of an “emergency government” with professional, experienced and responsible criteria, with the participation of Mr. Lapid and the leader of the National Coalition party, former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, will show the world the solidarity of Israelis in the face of this conflict.
Previously, on the evening of October 7, the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) carried out an airstrike that destroyed two high-rise towers in the Gaza Strip believed to be the base of the Hamas movement.
According to the IDF, Hamas often hides its facilities among civilian buildings to avoid Israeli airstrikes. This time, the IDF warned the residents of the buildings to evacuate before they collapsed.
The same afternoon, the IDF also carried out an airstrike on a medical facility in the Gaza Strip, killing a nurse and damaging a hospital oxygen supply facility.
Hamas continues to fire rockets at Israeli cities and towns near the Gaza Strip. The group is warning that tonight (October 7, Vietnam time) it will fire more rockets at Tel Aviv, about 70km from the Gaza Strip.
