“Splendid and Regal” Auction Sells Works by Famous Vietnamese Artist

The art collection of Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Loc includes many silk paintings by famous Vietnamese artists such as Le Pho, Vu Cao Dam, and Nguyen Tuong Lan.

The auction Magnificence and Regality: The Princely Collection of Nguyen Phuc Buu Loc will take place in Paris, France, on November 7. The event is conducted by Sotheby's.

Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Loc (1914-1990) was the fifth-generation grandson of King Minh Mang (1791-1841). Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Loc's art collection includes many silk paintings by famous Vietnamese artists such as Le Pho, Vu Cao Dam, and Nguyen Tuong Lan.

During his lifetime, Mr. Buu Loc had close friendships with many famous painters of Vietnamese fine arts. He built up his own impressive art collection. Currently, Mr. Buu Loc's son, who has both Vietnamese and French blood - Jean-François Nguyen - is the one who decided to sell this art collection.

Here are some of the standout pieces that will be offered in the Magnificence and Regality auction:

The painting “Mandarin Ducks and Lotus” painted by famous painter Le Pho in the late 1930s is estimated to fetch between 350,000 and 500,000 euros (equivalent to 9 to 13 billion VND) (Photo: Sotheby).
