Inspired by one of Asia's most famous classics, "Journey to the West: Uproar" doesn't retell the familiar pilgrimage to obtain the scriptures, but instead opens up a completely new story, combining fantasy, humor, and family emotions. After its initial screenings in Vietnam, the film is receiving much positive feedback thanks to its relatable entertainment style and humanistic message for audiences of all ages.

A Journey to the West that is both familiar and strange.

The film opens with a familiar scene: Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, and Sha Seng continue their journey to the West to obtain the Buddhist scriptures. However, things quickly change when the group is pursued by a series of demons aiming to capture Tang Sanzang in order to achieve immortality.

In the midst of a chaotic battle, Sun Wukong was unexpectedly blown away by the Banana Leaf Fan of Princess Iron Fan, flying through a spatial rift and landing in modern-day Thailand. Far from his familiar mythical world , the Monkey King awoke in a giant garbage dump and was taken in by a poor family.

Sun Wukong became friends with a group of Thai children.

From this point on, Journey to the West: Uproar is no longer simply a story about fighting demons or obtaining scriptures, but becomes a journey of discovering human relationships, friendship, and family bonds. This unexpected direction helps the film create a distinct flavor compared to many versions of Journey to the West that have appeared on screen.

It's not just laughter.

Behind the project is director Poj Arnon, known for his ability to blend humor and emotion in popular films. Besides the familiar comedic antics of Jazz Padung as Sun Wukong, the film also devotes significant time to building the relationship between the main character and the impoverished children he encounters in the modern world.

The film's plot incorporates many emotional twists and turns related to family relationships.

The work skillfully incorporates messages about family bonds, compassion, and the value of sharing. This is also what surprises many viewers, as behind the fantastical and humorous content lies a deeply emotional family story.

Audiences responded positively after the initial screenings.

Besides positive feedback from the Thai market, the film is also receiving many favorable reviews from Vietnamese audiences after its first screenings.

On online ticketing platforms, many viewers said they were surprised by how the film balanced humor and family emotions. Many parents shared that their children enjoyed the new version of Sun Wukong thanks to its playful appearance, vibrant colors, and constant appearances in humorous situations.

Some viewers commented that this is a suitable film for the whole family to enjoy on weekends or children's holidays. The message about friendship, the bond between family members, and kindness between strangers is also mentioned as one of the film's highlights.

Journey to the West: Uproar is currently showing in theaters nationwide.
