On the afternoon of April 22, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung received the Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mikhail Chudakov, who was visiting and working in Vietnam.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung warmly welcomed IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov and emphasized the importance of the visit, given that Vietnam is researching and preparing the necessary conditions to develop a nuclear power program.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the IAEA for sending senior leaders to work with Vietnam and for handing over the Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Assessment Report (INIR), demonstrating the IAEA's interest in and active support for its member states.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed the consistent policy of the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam to develop atomic energy for peaceful purposes, ensuring safety, security, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and full compliance with international treaties. Vietnam highly appreciates the role and efforts of the IAEA in promoting the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes as well as supporting countries in building nuclear infrastructure.
Since becoming a member of the IAEA, Vietnam has always regarded the IAEA as a strategic and reliable partner; cooperative activities have been increasingly implemented effectively and practically.
The Deputy Prime Minister particularly acknowledged the IAEA's support through technical cooperation projects, including the organization of a nuclear infrastructure assessment mission in Vietnam in December 2025.
The official handover of the IAEA's INIR Report to Vietnam is considered a significant milestone, providing practical recommendations to improve the legal and institutional framework and enhance the technical capacity of the nuclear power program. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope to continue receiving IAEA support in implementing these recommendations.
IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation and said that the IAEA had delivered the final INIR Report to Vietnam, reflecting the results of a comprehensive assessment of nuclear power infrastructure.
IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov affirmed that the IAEA is ready to support Vietnam through training programs, technical tools, and expert advice, as well as connecting with international partners and suppliers to support the implementation of the nuclear power program.
Mikhail Chudakov emphasized that adequate infrastructure preparation and a high-quality workforce are key factors in ensuring the program's success.
IAEA leaders pledged to continue accompanying and supporting Vietnam in improving its infrastructure, aiming to implement its nuclear power program safely, efficiently, and in accordance with international standards.
