Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited, presented gifts and directed flood relief in Gia Lai.

On November 21, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long made a working trip to Gia Lai province to visit and encourage people in areas affected by severe floods and direct work to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

In Luat Le village, Tuy Phuoc commune, an area heavily affected by the Luat Le river dike break, the Deputy Prime Minister directly presented 100 gifts to people in flooded areas, including 40 for Luat Le village and 60 for Van Hoi 1, Van Hoi 2 and Dieu Tri villages, which are located along the recently broken dike.

The Deputy Prime Minister kindly visited and encouraged people to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.

Next, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited the SOS Children's Village Quy Nhon, which has been surrounded and isolated by floodwaters for many days. Nearly 130 orphans and the village's staff had to move to the second floor to ensure safety.

In conditions of scarcity of food, drinking water and inaccessibility from the outside, the children, including many infants, have gone through extremely difficult times. The Deputy Prime Minister presented 117 gifts to the children here, encouraged their spirit and shared the difficulties with the mothers, aunts and staff in the village.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and the working delegation had a working session with the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee to grasp the damage situation and the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. Reporting at the meeting, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said: "In a very short time, the province has suffered two major natural disasters: storm No. 13 and a historic flood, causing an estimated damage of about 7,000 billion VND. Natural disasters have destroyed essential infrastructure, houses, and livelihoods of tens of thousands of households."

Comrade Pham Anh Tuan proposed that the Central Government consider supporting 1,000 billion VND for the province to build resettlement areas for 36 high-risk areas that need urgent resettlement and relocation of residents, with a total of 3,000 households. In addition, the province also proposed that the Central Government provide emergency support of 1,000 billion VND to rebuild Quy Nhon and damaged traffic infrastructure throughout the province.

Party Central Committee member and Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Thai Dai Ngoc also assessed the damage as extremely serious, spreading from the plains to the mountains. He requested the police and army to continue to support the province in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, especially at schools, medical stations and houses that are still in disarray.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long deeply sympathized with the losses that Gia Lai province had to bear, especially the loss of lives and property. He acknowledged the proactive and decisive actions of the local government and armed forces in disaster prevention and control. “The timely evacuation of people and the support of the military and police forces are bright spots in the province’s disaster prevention and control,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

To continue to overcome the consequences, the Deputy Prime Minister asked Gia Lai province to focus on providing food and medicine for people in isolated areas. At the same time, it is necessary to urgently clean and restore medical stations and schools to ensure learning conditions and health care for people. The Deputy Prime Minister also asked the province not to be subjective, to closely monitor the weather situation to promptly respond to unusual developments.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Gia Lai needs to fully summarize the damage, including the damage to businesses, in order to have appropriate support mechanisms regarding taxes, credit and bank debts. Regarding the province's proposals, the Deputy Prime Minister said that he will summarize and report to the Prime Minister for appropriate and timely handling.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long's working trip not only has the meaning of spiritual encouragement but also shows the Government's commitment to accompany localities and people in flood-affected areas to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, stabilize life and restore production.
