On June 5, the Government Office sent a document to the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province regarding the case of natural forest destruction in Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province.
According to the document, from May 31 to June 3, a number of press agencies reported on the destruction of natural forests in Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province, during the construction of the North-South expressway project.
Regarding this issue, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang requested the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to direct relevant agencies to verify and clarify the content of media reports on the above incident, and report to the Deputy Prime Minister before June 10.

Previously, SGGP Online reported on the investigation into the deforestation to open a road. On May 30, information from the Duc Pho Town Forest Protection Department revealed that during an inspection, a case of deforestation in Thanh Son village, Pho Cuong commune, was discovered to open a road.
Through inspection, the road is about 1km long with a total area of over 7,500m2 formed in the KfW6 forest - the Project for Sustainable Forest Restoration and Management funded by the German Government and implemented in Quang Ngai province - at lot 25, 26, compartment 8, sub-area 334, Pho Cuong commune without being licensed by the authorities. To have this road, the construction unit leveled and cut down hundreds of forest trees.
Previously, in sub-area 334, there were 9 households in Thanh Son village, Pho Cuong commune participating in the KfW6 project, and were granted red books by the People's Committee of Duc Pho town. Around 2016, this group of forest owners sold the entire area to Mr. NVB in Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, and then he leased it to Deo Ca Group.
