(BGĐT) - On the morning of May 22nd, the Bac Giang Provincial Library, in coordination with the Provincial Ethnic Boarding School, organized a thematic talk on life skills education with the theme "School Violence - Causes and Prevention Measures".

Here, the speaker presented a summary of the current state of domestic violence, its causes, and preventive measures. According to statistics, an average of 5 domestic violence incidents occur nationwide every day. The speaker analyzed the common types of domestic violence, such as physical violence, psychological violence, and sexual violence; with physical and psychological violence accounting for the largest proportion.

Alarmingly, school violence is on the rise. Many students suffer serious injuries requiring hospitalization, face life-threatening situations, or even die as a result of school violence.

Furthermore, the reality of students being sexually abused and inappropriate forms of criticism and punishment occurring in many schools is a serious concern. The consequences of these bullying incidents significantly affect students' physical and mental health, leading to a decline in academic performance, and in some cases, forcing many to drop out of school.

According to the speaker, the main cause of bullying is the inadequate and untimely education and training of students in life skills, sexuality, and in-depth understanding of bullying. With the rapid development of social media, much unhealthy information has negatively impacted the lifestyles of young people.

Furthermore, the attention and coordination of relevant units in preventing and combating school violence are limited. Students study many academic subjects but are less equipped with life skills, communication skills, and social etiquette, so even minor disagreements and conflicts can easily escalate.

Regarding verbal violence and measures to avoid sexual abuse, the speaker advised students to behave in a civilized and appropriate manner in relationships, avoiding unnecessary conflicts and disagreements; and to use loving language to influence and persuade.

To effectively prevent and combat bullying, according to speaker Mai Xuan Phuong, schools and families play a crucial role. Students need to proactively access positive information, especially life skills, communication, and behavior. They should always show love, share, and empathy; build pure and healthy friendships; avoid blindly following others; and refrain from hurting their peers. When experiencing bullying, they should promptly report it to their homeroom teacher, the school, and their parents for appropriate action.

In particular, it is necessary to build "happy schools" (happy teachers, happy students, happy parents). To achieve this, schools need to equip students with adequate skills in preventing and combating school violence, life skills, and sex education, while integrating these into the main curriculum; and create healthy and positive playgrounds and activities.

Parents should regularly spend time with their children, equipping them with knowledge and skills in parenting, rather than relying solely on teachers and schools. They should closely cooperate with schools to understand students' situations (their thoughts, aspirations, and any problems or difficulties they encounter) in order to share, advise, and work together to resolve these issues.
