Concern about dirty food

Ms. Kim Anh, (HCMC) said that after continuous information from Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue and then Dak Lak discovered facilities growing bean sprouts using chemicals, she was determined to make bean sprouts following the method that the sisters on the kitchen lovers group showed her and was successful the first time.

Ms. Kim Anh said that her family often uses bean sprouts every week in dishes such as stir-fries, raw dishes, and dishes with boiled meat...

“Almost every week my family eats at least 4 dishes with bean sprouts. I am quite worried about the information about bean sprouts being fermented with chemicals. So I decided to make bean sprouts at home for peace of mind,” said Ms. Kim Anh.

Ms. Kim Anh shared that bean sprouts can be made using many tools available at home. Among them, she chose to make bean sprouts in mesh bags. She reused the mesh bag used to store onions and garlic or the type of bag that is usually wrapped around grapefruit.

The simple recipe requires only 100g whole mung beans, a mesh bag, warm water and a clean basin.

Wash the mung beans, remove the floating beans, soak in warm water overnight, then rinse the soaked beans.

Divide the beans into mesh bags and tie them. Then place them in a pot, cover the pot tightly, and leave in a dark place so that the bean sprouts do not sprout green. After about 10 to 12 hours, pour clean water into the pot to cover the bean bags, then pour out the water. After 2 nights, the bean sprouts can be harvested.

“Just turn the mesh bag upside down to easily harvest the bean sprouts. This mesh bag can be reused. It is a simple way to have clean bean sprouts to eat, and you can also do it with your children to enhance their experience,” said Ms. Kim Anh.

Many interesting ways to grow bean sprouts yourself

Many housewives also share ways to grow bean sprouts such as using baskets and towels, using steamers, growing sprouts in sand, incubating sprouts in recycled milk cartons...

Simple recipes can be easily found with the keyword “make bean sprouts at home” on social networking platforms and groups.

Ms. Thanh Nhan ( Da Nang ) shared that it is possible to make bean sprouts in a “lazy” way. The recipe for making bean sprouts that Ms. Nhan gave is to simply wash the beans and soak them for 22 hours. Rinse and drain the soaked beans. Place a basket in a basin of water so that the bottom of the basket is about 1cm above the water surface.

Spread a wet towel in a basket, then spread the soaked beans in the basket, cover with a damp towel. Use a heavy object like a large bowl to weigh down the towel so the bean sprouts will be plumper.

Finally, cover it with a black plastic bag and place it in a dark place. After 3 days, open it and you will have a shelf that can be used without having to dip it in water as often as usual.

Ms. Thu Quynh ( Quang Nam ) shared a rather interesting way of making bean sprouts: “I use milk cartons to incubate the sprouts. This method is simple, quick and does not cause the sprouts to rot. Just give the sprouts water 2-3 times a day. After about 3 days, you will have bean sprouts to eat.”

Many people expressed their hope that after this crackdown on dirty food, there will no longer be any establishments that disregard people's health for profit.
