Spray pesticides from the beginning of the season |
For a long time, every time the crop season begins, farmers are busy preventing and controlling rice pests and diseases. This summer-autumn crop has just finished planting on an area of nearly 28,000 hectares in the whole province, which is also the time when pests and diseases begin to appear. Among them, rats and golden apple snails are causing local damage with a fairly high density and rate. Along with that, some types of pests and diseases have also begun to cause damage with a low density and rate.
Farmer Le Van Duc in Quang An commune (Quang Dien) shared that rice pests and diseases are no longer a strange thing for farmers. At the beginning of this summer-autumn crop, although pests and diseases have just appeared and the rate is low, farmers cannot be subjective or negligent but must actively stick to the fields and prevent them from the beginning of the crop. Proactive prevention and control at the beginning of the crop will help minimize pests and diseases throughout the crop season.
Director of Dong Phu Agricultural Cooperative (Quang Dien), Mr. Le Van Thu affirmed that the unit and local farmers have never been subjective in preventing pests and diseases that harm rice. And this summer-autumn crop is the same, the cooperative mobilizes farmers and members to kill rats, catch golden apple snails by hand, and spray pesticides periodically from the beginning of the crop; however, people must comply with the correct time and dosage. In the process of preventing pests and diseases, biological products can be used, and snails and rats can be caught by hand to ensure product quality.
Mr. Nguyen Vien, Head of Control Board - Thuan Hoa Cooperative ( Hue City) informed that currently, apple snails and rats are causing damage to the rice fields at a fairly high rate and density. If proactive prevention is not taken, the density of rats and snails causing damage to rice will continue to increase in the coming time. In addition to spraying pesticides to prevent pests, the cooperative mobilizes people to manually catch rats and golden apple snails to minimize damage right from the beginning of the season.
Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Mr. Ho Dinh informed that since planting, golden apple snails, rats and some pests have started to damage rice. Golden apple snails are causing damage sporadically, with a density of 1-3 snails/m2, in some places 3-5 snails/m2, mainly in Huong Tra town, Huong Thuy town, Phu Vang and Quang Dien districts...
Other harmful organisms such as thrips, leaf rollers, rats, etc. cause damage sporadically, with low density and rate. It is forecasted that in the coming time, golden apple snails will continue to cause damage in low-lying fields and uneven fields. Thrips will arise and cause damage in fields with water shortages and poor care. Rats will cause increased damage in areas near mounds, dams, and villages. Pests arise and develop, causing damage at low density and rate.
The Department is focusing on urging localities to speed up the progress of sowing the remaining areas to ensure the correct summer-autumn crop schedule. For fields with acid sulfate soil, increase the application of lime or phosphate fertilizer to reduce acidity and wash away the sulfate soil; regularly retain water in the fields to limit the impact on the growth and development of rice plants right from the beginning of the season.
In the 2024 summer-autumn crop, the whole province will plant more than 28,000 hectares as planned, with certified varieties reaching nearly 100%. The rice varieties planted this crop are mostly short-term and extremely short-term varieties such as the main varieties DT100 (KH1), N87, N97 (glutinous), Khang Dan, HT1, HN6, DT39, HG12, TH5... The agricultural sector continues to pilot the production of the promising variety HG244; encourage farmers to boldly introduce some officially recognized rice varieties, participate in linkages and product consumption such as TBR97, Ha Phat 3, VNR20, DB6... to gradually diversify the province's variety set. |
