This was stated at the recent seminar "Sharing experiences in connecting and supporting women to start businesses in the Southern provinces" in Ho Chi Minh City and online at 20 locations.

The program was organized by the Southern Working Committee (Vietnam Women's Union) to share solutions to accompany and support women in starting businesses to enhance their economic power in the coming time. The question is how to support women to overcome many limitations to move towards globalization?

Startups contribute to high social security

Ms. Tran Thi Huyen Thanh - Head of the Southern Working Committee - said that in the period of 2017-2023, the Southern Provinces Association has diversified activities to support women in starting businesses in terms of resources and techniques as well as promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation.

This spreads the entrepreneurial spirit, enhances the status of women and contributes to the development of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. However, there are still some limitations leading to low efficiency such as loose coordination and network building, inadequate databases, and difficulty for women-owned businesses to borrow capital.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Loc - Director of the Institute for Social Life Research, the globalization process creates new opportunities for women to access international markets, expand their business networks, allowing them to start businesses at lower costs and reach customers effectively through online platforms.

In Vietnam, this trend is clearly reflected in the number of businesses owned by women increasing from 21% (in 2011) to 24% (in 2021). Many Vietnamese female entrepreneurs have successfully started businesses, creating positive values for the community. "When women participate in economic activities, their social contributions are even higher than men's, especially in social security and family. Women starting businesses helps to take advantage of untapped resources," said Mr. Loc.

However, in reality, there are still difficulties such as difficulty in accessing capital, limited management skills and business environment. Therefore, according to Mr. Loc, it is necessary to increase financial and technical support, improve the business environment, and promote gender equality in all aspects of business activities.

Women contribute to regional prosperity and are an investment in the future. Women's active participation in the economy at all levels including decision-making in Government and businesses will bring benefits to society.

Green economic development, how?

Faced with the problem of global environmental climate change, Master Nguyen Huu Nam - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI Ho Chi Minh City) - said that green economy is an inevitable trend, creating new rules of the game for businesses in the process of international economic integration.

Mr. Nam said that when participating in the global game, businesses have no choice but to comply with and implement Vietnam's commitments as well as the requirements of the import market. In addition, the trend of consuming low-emission goods and services and environmentally friendly products, especially in large markets such as the United States, the EU, Japan, etc., will also be an opportunity for businesses.

"Businesses that pioneer green transformation will quickly dominate the demanding market, although green transformation is not an easy task. Female entrepreneurs need to be more proactive and pioneer in developing a green, circular, low-emission economy associated with digital transformation. This should be considered both a goal and a lever for sustainable development in the globalization trend," Mr. Nam analyzed.
