Phu Tho: Actively supporting unemployed workers to find jobs soon

Recently, the number of workers applying for unemployment benefits in Phu Tho province has been high, mainly concentrated in industrial zones, especially in the garment and electronics industries. In that context, Phu Tho province is proposing solutions to support workers to return to the labor market soon.

Creating sustainable jobs

Ms. Dinh Thi Hong Nhung, Muong ethnic group, Cu Dong commune, said that she used to work at Sel Electronic Components Company in old Vinh Phuc. Because she had just given birth and had to work far from home, the job did not meet her income needs, so she decided to quit her job and apply for unemployment benefits. As the main breadwinner in the family, now without a job and income, Ms. Nhung said she was very worried and anxious. After the 3 months of unemployment benefits ended, she would look for a new, more suitable job. After being advised by the staff at Phu Tho Employment Service Center, she would register to study bartending as introduced by the Center, with the hope of changing careers in the future...

Mr. Nguyen Bao Chien (born in 1993, zone 2, Phu Tho ward), works at Electro M Vina Company in Phu Ha Industrial Park. Recently, due to the lack of work and unstable job, he quit his job and returned to his hometown hoping to find a suitable job. While he has not found a job, he is completing procedures to receive unemployment insurance. He hopes that through job exchanges, he will find a job that suits his abilities or will learn more about mechanics to open a repair shop at home.

Mr. Bui Quang Hao, Deputy Head of the Unemployment Insurance Department, Phu Tho Employment Service Center, said that recently, the Center receives an average of nearly 100 job applications per day. Although the number of people completing procedures has not increased much compared to the same period last year, this is still a high number.

According to statistics, in August 2025, the whole province had 679 people applying for unemployment benefits, bringing the total number of applications since the beginning of the year to 6,627 people; of which, 5,096 people have received monthly benefits. Most of the unemployed workers are due to unilateral termination of contracts, leave due to unsuitable working conditions or due to business mergers, restructuring, etc.

Mr. Bui Quang Hao commented that the unemployment insurance policy is playing the role of a “temporary support” to help workers have time to change careers and find suitable jobs. However, unemployment benefits are only a short-term solution, the important thing is that workers need to have sustainable jobs.

Ensuring dual goals

According to Phu Tho Employment Service Center, to support unemployment beneficiaries to return to the labor market, the provincial authorities have stepped up counseling, job referrals, training and vocational training support, helping workers quickly find suitable jobs; providing financial support to help workers not be under too much financial pressure when unemployed. In addition, the Center has also increased the dissemination of regulations on the termination of unemployment insurance benefits when finding a new job to encourage unemployment beneficiaries to return to the labor market.

The center focuses on consulting and introducing free jobs, close to the qualifications and needs of workers; organizing periodic job fairs, regularly inviting businesses to participate in direct job fairs, creating conditions for workers to access recruitment information, salaries, benefits... to choose suitable jobs.

In addition, the Center also promotes free vocational training support for occupations such as bartending, mechanical engineering, driving, etc., helping workers improve their skills and have more job opportunities; maintaining unemployment insurance benefits at 60% of average salary so that workers have a stable income, helping them cover their living expenses and have time to look for new jobs.

To facilitate workers, the Center has increased propaganda and instructed workers to submit their applications directly at the center or through the National Public Service Portal, shortening processing time, ensuring the correct regime, correct subjects and on time.

According to the Phu Tho Employment Service Center, with appropriate methods, by the end of August 2025, the Center had consulted 26,508 people, introduced jobs to 7,489 workers, reaching 84.1% of the yearly plan. However, the work of supporting workers to return to the market still faces many difficulties such as: limited skills, inappropriate age, work location far from residence, a number of workers have not participated in unemployment insurance and still have the mentality of waiting for subsidies...

In the context of economic and employment fluctuations, supporting unemployed workers to return to the labor market early has a dual goal: ensuring social security and contributing to promoting local economic development.
