A pizza chain has partnered with a centuries-old restaurant in Hong Kong to create a dish that is both modern and traditional: snake meat pizza.
This dish is a collaboration between Pizza Hut Hong Kong and Ser Wong Fun, a local snake restaurant that has been open since 1895. The pizza, measuring 22 cm in diameter, features a traditional pizza base topped with black mushrooms, dried ham, and shredded snake meat. It uses abalone sauce instead of the usual tomato sauce and is available until November 22nd.
The new dish has attracted a lot of attention, especially from diners in Hong Kong and southern China, who enjoy braised snake in the winter.

According to local experience, the best time of year to eat snake meat is "when the autumn wind begins to blow," which is also when snakes are fattest and preparing to hibernate. Many Chinese diners believe that snake meat has medicinal properties, beautifies the skin, warms the body, and improves blood circulation.
"Combined with cheese and diced chicken, the snake meat will have a richer flavor," the pizza shop said in a statement before the dish went on sale earlier this month.
Mabel Sieh, a Hong Kong resident, said the snake pizza was terrifying, but Rachael Wong, another resident, said she was excited about it. "Snake meat is like chicken, tastes like fish and other seafood, and is a high-protein dish for winter," Wong said.
This isn't the first time Pizza Hut has come up with unusual dishes. Previously, the chain's Taiwanese branch introduced pizzas made with durian, pig's blood, or pizza topped with tonkatsu ramen (ramen noodles served with fried pork) from Japan.
