PSG lost their first match in Ligue 1. |
Despite being crowned champions early, coach Luis Enrique's team still has ambitions to become the first team to win Ligue 1 unbeaten. However, against a Nice team competing for a UEFA Champions League spot, the home team had to pay a heavy price for their moments of carelessness.
The match started with PSG dominating possession and creating dangerous chances. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had a chance to open the scoring but his shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Marcin Bułka.
In a seemingly one-sided match, the away team unexpectedly took the lead in the 34th minute after a beautiful combination between Bouanani and Morgan Sanson - who coolly finished, defeating Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Not keeping the audience waiting long, PSG equalized just 7 minutes later thanks to a decisive left-footed finish by Fabian Ruiz, after a breakthrough pass by Ousmane Dembele. However, the joy was short-lived. Right after the ball rolled back, Sanson completed his double with a beautiful overhead kick, restoring Nice's lead.
In the second half, PSG tried to find an equalizer, but Nice's tight defense discouraged the home team's strikers. In the 70th minute, the visitors launched the final blow when Youssouf Ndayishimiye headed home after Bouanani's accurate free kick, sealing an emotional 3-1 victory for "Les Aiglons".
The defeat not only ended PSG's unbeaten run but also gave Nice a boost in their race for a Champions League spot next season. The capital club will now turn their attention to continental competition, where they will face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals in May, before finishing the season with a Coupe de France final against Reims.
