The 'controversial' past of the referee who gave out 7 red cards in the final of SEA Games 32 - 1

Referee Al Hatmi issued 7 red cards in the 32nd SEA Games final.

At the 2020 AFF Cup, Mr. Al Hatmi officiated the match between Thailand and the Philippines. Coach John Stewart Hall of the Philippines team did not hesitate to publicly criticize the Omani referee, saying that he had made many confusing decisions. The biggest controversy was the penalty that Mr. Al Hatmi awarded to the Thai team that led to the opening goal.

Also in this tournament, the Omani referee once again became the focus of criticism in the semi-final match between Indonesia and Singapore. After being sent off, Singapore defender Safuwan Baharuddin pointed and argued with Mr. Al Hatmi.

The 30-year-old player had previously been accused of bullying the Singapore team. The Lion Island team lost a penalty in the first half when an Indonesian player clearly committed a foul but the referee did not award a penalty.

In this match, referee Al Hatmi showed a total of 3 red cards to the Singapore team. According to Soccerway statistics, referee Al Hatmi has never officiated a match without showing a card.

The referee blew the whistle, causing U22 Indonesia to miss their celebration.

In the final match of the men's football match of the 32nd SEA Games, the whistle of referee Al Hatmi in the last minute of extra time signaled the beginning of the chaotic events at the Olympic Stadium (Phnom Penh, Cambodia). He blew the whistle for the U22 Indonesian player when the situation had passed by a few seconds, making the team of the archipelago think that it was the final whistle of the match and celebrate wildly.

However, Mr. Al Hatmi then signaled that the match was not over. U22 Thailand scored a goal right from the free kick. The match became more tense. Mr. Al Hatmi issued 5 red cards to players and coaching staff of both teams after the melee. When the match resumed, he sent off 2 more U22 Thailand players.
