In the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers, Vietnam U23 defeated Bangladesh 2-0, Singapore 1-0, and Yemen 1-0. Vietnam U23 scored a total of four goals and conceded none.
Only the South Korean U23 team in Group J and the Australian U23 team in Group D managed to do the same.
Specifically, in Group J, South Korea U23 defeated Macau 5-0, Laos 7-0, and Indonesia 1-0. South Korea finished the qualifying round with a clean sheet and 13 goals scored.
Similarly, in Group D, the Australian U23 team defeated the Northern Mariana Islands 13-0, then beat Timor Leste 6-0, and drew with China 0-0. The Australian U23 team scored 19 goals in the qualifiers and conceded none.
The performance of the Vietnam U23 team shows that the defense, with players like Ly Duc, Hieu Minh, Nhat Minh, and goalkeeper Trung Kien, is the team's foundation under coach Kim Sang Sik. However, it must also be acknowledged that the U23 teams of Yemen, Bangladesh, and Singapore are not really that strong.
The Vietnam U23 team still needs to improve in order to perform better at the 2025 SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
Vietnam U23 is one of the seven teams that topped their groups and won all their matches in the AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers, alongside Jordan (Group A), Japan (Group B), Qatar (Group H), Iran (Group I), South Korea (Group J), and Syria (Group K).
The Vietnam U23 team has participated in 6 out of 7 AFC U23 Asian Championships. Over the past decade, the Vietnam U23 team has consistently been present at Asia's top tournament for U23 teams.
