Athletics once again affirmed its pivotal role by bringing home medals of high professional value, with the victory of the mixed 4x400m relay team, where the four runners Le Ngoc Phuc, Nguyen Thi Hang, Nguyen Thi Ngoc and Ta Ngoc Tuong coordinated perfectly to cross the finish line with a time of 3 minutes 15 seconds 07, winning the 30th gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation, and simultaneously breaking the previous record of 3 minutes 19 seconds 29 set by Thailand at the SEA Games 31.
In the 5,000m race, Nguyen Thi Oanh successfully defended her title with a time of 16 minutes 27 seconds 13. This achievement brings Nguyen Thi Oanh's total number of SEA Games gold medals in her career to 13, equaling the record of her senior, Nguyen Thi Huyen.
Karate was the sport that brought the most gold medals to Vietnamese sports on December 13th, with victories by Hoang Thi My Tam in the women's -61kg kumite category, Dinh Thi Huong in the women's -68kg category, and Nguyen Thanh Truong in the men's -84kg category.
The remaining gold medal on December 13th went to Tran Thi Anh Tuyet, who became a highlight by winning gold in the 53-57kg Taekwondo category.
