On December 13th, at the Government headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a working session with ministries, agencies, and Quang Tri province regarding the damage and results of post- flood recovery efforts in the area, aiming to quickly stabilize people's lives and restore production and business activities, including the restoration of housing for 12 households whose homes were destroyed by landslides in Khe Sanh commune.
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister commended Quang Tri province for completing the repair of 3,466 houses with less than 30% damage and 8 houses that were severely damaged.
At the same time, the Prime Minister also criticized Quang Tri province for the fact that the landslide in Khe Sanh occurred on November 16-17, but it took nearly 10 days, until November 25, to declare a state of emergency, and only on December 11 to issue an order for the construction of emergency works to mitigate the landslide.
Currently, Quang Tri province is focusing its resources on addressing landslides and restoring housing for 12 households in Khe Sanh.
Regarding materials, the province will purchase and transport them quickly based on the emergency situation; the Army will immediately deploy engineering troops to carry out the construction, ensuring strict adherence to regulations; the work must be completed by December 31st at the latest so that people can return to their safe homes and resume production and business activities.
The province balances its local budget; if there is a budget shortfall or a lack of mechanisms, it should promptly and accurately propose solutions to the central government, ensuring feasibility and effectiveness.

The Prime Minister stated that this delay is a shortcoming, and the province must review and handle the relevant collectives and individuals based on the regulations of the Party and the laws of the State, including Regulation 366 of the Politburo on reviewing and evaluating the quality of collectives and individuals in the political system; and report to the competent authorities in a constructive, serious, and honest manner.
The head of government requested the province to learn from experience in promptly assessing the situation; reporting accurately, fully, and promptly; and responding flexibly and promptly.
The province must study long-term solutions such as finding drainage solutions for landslide-prone areas; investing in upgrading and completing related infrastructure to prevent landslides; and establishing regulations on construction in the area.
The Prime Minister emphasized that, drawing lessons from the handling and remediation of the landslide at Khe Sanh, ministries, agencies, localities, and officials in general, when dealing with any matter for the people, must put themselves in the people's shoes. In urgent situations involving the lives, health, and livelihoods of the people, immediate action must be taken, avoiding bureaucracy and formalism. Accordingly, work must be handled not only with responsibility but also with heartfelt compassion, national solidarity, and treating the people's affairs as if they were their own.
In addressing the consequences of natural disasters and stabilizing people's lives, it is necessary to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity. In addition to state resources, social resources, resources from businesses, and the people must be mobilized.
