Consumer preference
On a late afternoon at the end of the year, at the exhibition area showcasing OCOP products, regional specialties, and connecting supply and demand in the collective economic zone on Minh Khai Street, the OCOP booths of Hai Phong businesses and cooperatives attracted a large number of city residents who came to visit and buy products as gifts for Tet (Lunar New Year). Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, present at the Song Hai fish sauce booth of Song Hai Seafood Co., Ltd., said that half a month before Tet, she chose to buy several products such as high-protein fish sauce, mackerel fish sauce, and 4-star OCOP products from the company as gifts for relatives because the company was offering a promotion where buying one box of fish sauce came with a free bottle of fish sauce.

Following the merger, OCOP products in the city are very diverse this spring. People's shopping and consumption habits show a strong desire to have some famous OCOP specialties from both the eastern and western parts of the city with their families during Tet (Lunar New Year).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, residing on Tran Nhan Tong Street, Phu Lien Ward, said that she has several friends currently living in the western area near production facilities of famous OCOP products such as golden dragon mung bean cakes, buffalo sausage, etc. Therefore, she asked her friends to order some specialties from the western part of the city for her family to use during Tet.
Some residents living in the western region are looking to buy some OCOP specialty products from the eastern region, such as braised sardines from fishing villages, sun-dried mackerel, etc.

Responding to consumer demand, OCOP (One Commune One Product) product manufacturers, cooperatives, and small and medium-sized enterprises are taking advantage of opportunities to promote and sell their products in both the eastern and western parts of the city. Nguyen Thi Duong, owner of Huong Dung mung bean cake production facility, said that understanding the needs, psychology, and tastes of city consumers, she actively participates in setting up booths to sell and introduce her products at fairs held in both the eastern and western areas so that city residents can learn about her facility's 4-star OCOP products. This Tet (Lunar New Year), in addition to traditional mung bean cakes, her facility also offers mixed-flavor mung bean cakes such as green tea and lotus seed, with attractive designs suitable as Tet gifts.
Continuously innovating and improving quality.
To ensure that OCOP products are chosen as Tet gifts, businesses and cooperatives with OCOP products are constantly innovating, improving quality, and focusing on products that the market needs at competitive prices and with the most convenient service, so that consumers can purchase them as gifts anytime, anywhere.
The chrysanthemum products from Thang Thuy Agricultural Service Cooperative are also a popular gift choice, especially during Tet (Lunar New Year). Ms. Cao Thi Hang, Director of the Cooperative, said that the product is grown organically, has a natural fragrance, and many people find it helps improve insomnia caused by nervous tension. To better suit the gift-giving trends during Tet, the cooperative not only focuses on quality but also improves the packaging with elegant boxes, each gift box containing a compelling OCOP (One Commune One Product) story.

For example, Sovi Co., Ltd., a leading enterprise with its braised sardines from the fishing village in Kien Hung commune, according to its director, Le Tien Viet, to maintain the brand of braised sardines from the fishing village in the face of competition from many other businesses producing similar products, the most important thing is to ensure quality; a source of fresh, delicious fish, a clean and safe production line, and a secret recipe to make the product fragrant, flavorful, and satisfying to customers. In particular, the product design must be convenient for gifting during Tet (Lunar New Year), such as packaging in earthenware pots and attractive boxes.
Therefore, the braised sardines from the fishing village – a 4-star OCOP product of the company – is chosen by many consumers as a gift during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). This Tet season, by the end of January, the company had received nearly 3,000 orders for braised sardines gift boxes from agencies and organizations, averaging 350,000 - 500,000 VND per box…

Along with the efforts of businesses and cooperatives to elevate the status of OCOP products, functional agencies such as the Cooperative Union, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Department of Agriculture and Environment also regularly organize programs to display, introduce, and sell OCOP products and regional specialties, with the goal of connecting supply and demand, expanding markets, and creating momentum for cooperatives and businesses to develop sustainably.
According to Nguyen Huu Dao, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong City Cooperative Union, the "Spring in Hai Phong" program attracted 30 booths from cooperatives and businesses from 11 provinces and cities nationwide, showcasing many OCOP products, typical and essential products for daily life and the Lunar New Year. All products on display have clear origins, guaranteed quality and food safety, demonstrating the responsibility, credibility, and brand of the collective economy and cooperatives.
