Android 'Monster' Xiaomi 17 series launched, declaring war on iPhone 17

Xiaomi has just officially announced the Xiaomi 17 high-end Android smartphone line, including three versions Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.

All are equipped with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, meet IP69 water/dust resistance standards and run on Hyper OS 3 interface. Among these, Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the more advanced products.

One of the highlights of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series is the secondary rear screen, located next to the main camera. The Pro version has a 2.66-inch screen, while the Pro Max has a larger 2.86-inch screen. This secondary screen supports many useful features such as clock, music playback, notes, photo preview and delivery notifications. In particular, Handheld Console mode allows users to connect the case via Bluetooth, helping to turn the phone into a "classic game console".

The Xiaomi 17 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,656 x 1,220, while the 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,608 x 1,200. Both displays have an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and a maximum brightness of up to 3,500 nits.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro has a 6,300 mAh silicon-carbon battery that outperforms many competitors such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Pro Max version is even more impressive with a 7,500 mAh battery. However, it is possible that Xiaomi will have to downgrade the battery capacity for the European market due to shipping regulations.

Both versions of the Xiaomi 17 Pro support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing users to use a 100W PPS charger to reach maximum speeds without having to buy a proprietary charger.

In terms of cameras, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are equipped with a 50 MP f/1.67 main camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. The Pro version also has a 50 MP telephoto camera with macro shooting capabilities, while the Pro Max has a 50 MP "periscope" camera with an f/2.6 aperture that promises better photo quality.

While the standard version of the Xiaomi 17 isn't the center of attention, it's still considered a strong competitor to the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 Pro. It features a 6.3-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and a maximum brightness of up to 3,500 nits.

The standard Xiaomi 17 has a large 7,000 mAh battery with higher silicon technology. However, there are still concerns about the battery's long-term durability as the industry gradually moves to using higher silicon content. When the battery runs out, users can recharge it with 100W wired charging or 50W wireless charging.

For the camera, the Xiaomi 17 is equipped with a 50MP Light Fusion 950 sensor (1/1.31 inch, f/1.67), a 50MP JN5 telephoto camera (supports 10cm macro shooting), and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

The Xiaomi 17 starts at around $631 for the 12/256 GB version. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro starts at around $701 and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at around $841. Xiaomi has not yet announced a global launch date for the Xiaomi 17 series, but it is likely that the series will be introduced early next year.
