The Android 'monster' Xiaomi 17 series is unveiled, declaring war on the iPhone 17.

Xiaomi has officially announced the Xiaomi 17 series of high-end Android smartphones, including three versions: Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.

All models are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, meet the IP69 water/dust resistance standard, and run on the Hyper OS 3 interface. Among these, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the more premium products.

Impressive power on the Xiaomi 17 Pro

One of the highlights of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series is the secondary rear screen, located next to the main camera. The Pro version has a 2.66-inch screen, while the Pro Max has a larger 2.86-inch screen. This secondary screen supports many useful features such as a clock, music playback, notes, photo preview, and delivery notifications. Notably, the Handheld Console mode allows users to connect a phone case via Bluetooth, transforming the phone into a "classic gaming console".

The Xiaomi 17 Pro features a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2656 x 1220, while the 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2608 x 1200. Both displays have an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and a maximum brightness of up to 3500 nits.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro boasts a 6,300 mAh silicon-carbon battery, outperforming many competitors like the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Pro Max version is even more impressive with a 7,500 mAh battery. However, Xiaomi may have to downgrade battery capacity for the European market due to shipping regulations.

Both versions of the Xiaomi 17 Pro support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing users to utilize the 100W PPS charger for maximum charging speed without needing to purchase a proprietary charger.

In terms of cameras, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max feature a 50MP f/1.67 main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. The Pro version also has a 50MP telephoto camera with macro capabilities, while the Pro Max boasts a 50MP "periscope" camera with an f/2.6 aperture, promising better image quality.

The Xiaomi 17 is also not far behind.

Although the standard version of the Xiaomi 17 isn't the focus of much attention, it's still considered a strong competitor to the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 Pro. It features a 6.3-inch display with an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and a maximum brightness of up to 3,500 nits.

The standard Xiaomi 17 boasts a large 7,000 mAh battery with advanced silicon technology. However, concerns remain about the battery's long-term durability as the industry increasingly uses higher silicon content. When the battery is depleted, users can recharge it using a 100W wired charger or a 50W wireless charger.

In terms of cameras, the Xiaomi 17 is equipped with a 50MP Light Fusion 950 sensor (1/1.31 inch, f/1.67), a 50MP JN5 telephoto camera (supporting 10cm macro photography), and a 50MP ultrawide camera.

The Xiaomi 17 starts at around $631 for the 12GB/256GB version. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro starts at around $701 and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at around $841. Xiaomi has not yet announced the global launch date for the Xiaomi 17 series, but it is highly likely that the product line will be introduced early next year.
