Ly Son island district has a natural area of 10,390 km2 and a population of over 22 thousand people. Based on the characteristics of an outpost island district with an important strategic position in terms of national defense, security and marine economy , the national defense posture in Ly Son has been effectively built with the participation of organizations, forces, especially armed units and islanders.
Ly Son is the outpost island of the Fatherland, with an important position in terms of national defense and security for the central coastal region. Therefore, along with residential areas, on Ly Son Island there are many units of the armed forces such as: Border Guard, Naval Radar Station 550, Technical Station T18, Coast Guard Station 2, District Police, District Military Command, etc. The forces have regularly coordinated well to perform the tasks of protecting national security, social order and safety, fighting and preventing crimes and national defense tasks in the maritime border area.

In the period of 2019 - 2024 alone, in addition to successfully completing the task of combat readiness training and maintaining security and order, the forces coordinated to fight and prosecute 8 cases/10 subjects, seizing 164.9g of various drugs, 258.5kg of explosives, 1,265 detonators; administratively sanctioned 48 cases of nearly 1.5 billion VND for acts of not complying with border inspection and control, storing electric shock tools to exploit seafood in prohibited areas and storing and transporting smuggled cigarettes.
As a "bright spot" in building a national defense posture, Ly Son Border Guard Station has regularly coordinated with local Party committees, authorities, and organizations to organize activities to help people develop the economy and improve their spiritual life. Specifically, implementing the programs "Helping children go to school" and "Border Guard Station's adopted children", the Station has sponsored 4 orphans with a total amount of 120 million VND; coordinated the implementation of the program "Border Guard Spring - Warming the hearts of the villagers" worth more than 230 million VND; called for nearly 3,000 vehicles with more than 25,000 workers to find safe places to take shelter from storms; participated in the rescue of 15 cases of accidents at sea.
Officers and soldiers of Ly Son Border Guard Station also actively coordinated with units to fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, propagated and mobilized 100% of fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more to install journey monitoring devices; established and maintained 23 self-managed boat teams, 4 safe wharf teams, 6 self-managed security and order teams in villages and hamlets; closely monitored and managed the activities of foreign organizations and delegations visiting the island for sightseeing and tourism .

Along with that, the people have discovered and provided the Border Guard Station and other functional forces with more than 1,000 valuable sources of information; participated in nearly 1,300 border patrols to serve the work of managing and protecting border sovereignty and fighting against all kinds of crimes.
Recently, speaking at the conference to review 5 years of implementing "People's Border Guard Day", period 2019 - 2024, Colonel Tran Tuan Anh, Commander of Quang Ngai Border Guard affirmed that the attention, leadership, direction, support and facilitation of the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, local departments, branches and organizations and the love, care, support and facilitation of the people in the Ly Son coastal border area are important motivations for officers and soldiers of Ly Son Border Guard to successfully complete the assigned political tasks.
According to comrade Pham Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ly Son district, promoting the tradition of military-civilian solidarity, armed forces units have regularly been closely associated with and accompanied the people on the island. Through specific actions, officers and soldiers of the units have made important contributions to the stability and socio-economic development of the locality, contributing to improving people's lives; at the same time, enhancing the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" and "People's Public Security soldiers" in the new situation./.
