On the morning of November 22, at Bang La Residential Area, Tra Leng Commune, Nam Tra My District, a program was organized to preserve the new rice festival of the Mnong people. The new rice festival of the Mnong people is a unique cultural and religious ritual, held annually by the people here.
At the end of the swidden crop season, when the granaries are full of rice and corn, and the field work is finished, every household in the villages and hamlets in Tra Leng commune joyfully organizes a festival to celebrate the newly harvested rice. The people here prepare offerings such as sticky rice, pigs, chickens, betel and areca nuts, rice wine, etc. to thank the rice god, the mountain god, and the water god for giving the villagers a prosperous harvest.
Next, the people will play drums and gongs, holding a festival to celebrate the fruits of their labor after a year of hard work. Just like that, over time, the new rice festival has become a very important custom in the lives of the Mnong people and has been preserved by the people until today. This is also an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and mutual support between the villages of the people through the organization of very unique ceremonies and festivals.
In recent times, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province has promoted the restoration and preservation of culture, promoting the good values of ethnic minorities associated with the development of green and sustainable tourism. The reenactment of the New Rice Festival of the Mnong ethnic group in Tra Leng commune is associated with conservation activities, performing new rice worship rituals, gong performances, ting ting singing, organizing folk games and traditional craft competitions to preserve and promote the traditional cultural beauty of ethnic minorities, contributing to diversifying cultural and community tourism destinations in Nam Tra My district.
