According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai, African swine fever appeared on July 1 and quickly spread. As of August 5, the epidemic had occurred in pig herds of 7,800 households, in 450 villages and residential groups in 52 communes, wards and special zones. Nearly 50,000 pigs were infected and destroyed.
The reason for the rapid spread of the disease is the low vaccination rate, while most small-scale livestock farms are still subjective and do not strictly comply with prevention measures. In many places, barns are not hygienic, and waste treatment areas are limited.
So far, the situation has changed positively. Three localities including Son Tay Ha, Kon Plong, and Nguyen Nghiem have gone 21 days without any new outbreaks.
The province has provided 5,000 doses of vaccine and more than 4,800 liters of chemicals for localities to vaccinate, disinfect, and clean barns.
In the context of basically controlling the epidemic, but re-herding at this time still has potential risks. Therefore, the Quang Ngai agricultural sector recommends that people be cautious, not to let the epidemic break out again, causing heavy damage and being difficult to control as in the past.
