Through examining data from hundreds of automatic cameras placed deep in the forest, Chu Mom Ray National Park (Sa Thay commune, Quang Ngai province) has recorded the appearance of many rare animal species.
According to the leader of Chu Mom Ray National Park, in the past, determining the presence of rare animal species was mainly based on surveys and research of traces (mainly footprints).
However, in recent years, thanks to the equipment of many cameras and automatic video cameras placed deep in the forest, the unit has specifically recorded the images and status of many rare animals, including species that are very rare in the wild. Typical examples include: gaur, black bear, silver langur, red leopard, black-shanked douc langur, brown-shanked douc langur, gray-shanked douc langur, zebra pheasant, purple pheasant, red-crowned chicken... All of these rare animals are currently strictly protected in Chu Mom Ray National Park, with all hunting and encroachment strictly prohibited.
Currently, the Chu Mom Ray National Park Management Board has installed a total of 280 automatic cameras and video cameras. The modern automatic machine system not only records clear images of rare animals but also contributes to monitoring and preventing illegal encroachment on forests and animals.
Chu Mom Ray National Park currently has an area of over 60,000 hectares, home to about 1,000 animal species, from common to rare.
