Inauguration ceremony of the relic site at Long Dai Ferry Terminal II, honoring 16 Youth Volunteers who sacrificed their lives in 1972, contributing to promoting the historical value and tourism of Quang Tri.
On the morning of September 19, at the Long Dai Ferry Terminal II National Historical Site (Truong Ninh Commune, Quang Tri Province), the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province held the inauguration ceremony of the project to renovate the Memorial Site where 16 Youth Volunteers sacrificed their lives in September 1972.
Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong; leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province; leaders of the People's Committee of Hung Yen province, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province; relatives of 16 Youth Volunteers who sacrificed at Long Dai Ferry Terminal II and a large number of people of Quang Tri province.
Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam said that in September 1972, in the rain of bombs and bullets, while clearing the road and transporting goods across the Long Dai River, 16 soldiers of the C130 Youth Volunteer Company (from Thai Binh, now Hung Yen Province) heroically sacrificed their lives. Their blood mixed with the river, carving an immortal heroic epic into the history of Quang Tri.
Along with Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Hien Luong-Ben Hai River, Truong Son Cemetery, Road 9 Cemetery... Long Dai ferry has become an immortal symbol, a tragic testament to the indomitable will of Vietnamese youth, ready to "die for the Fatherland," maintaining the traffic artery to support the great frontline in the South. Realizing that sacred value, for many years, Quang Tri province has paid attention to investing in and embellishing the relic site.
In 2012, the Memorial House of 16 Youth Volunteers who sacrificed their lives was inaugurated, where people and tourists offer incense in memory. By April 2025, with the joint efforts of the entire political system of the province, the accompaniment of T&T Group and organizations and individuals inside and outside the province, the project of comprehensive restoration and embellishment of this historical relic site was completed and handed over for use.
Mr. Hoang Nam affirmed that the newly expanded and spacious relic site not only meets the needs of commemoration and gratitude, but also creates a meaningful cultural-historical space, contributing to connecting this relic with other "red addresses", forming a unique cultural-historical tourism route in the heroic homeland of Quang Tri.
In particular, the people of Quang Tri were proud and excited when on September 9, Long Dai Ferry was honored to be recognized as a National Historical Relic. The completion of the restoration and embellishment of Long Dai Ferry Relic is a sacred tribute to the heroes who fell at the "fire coordinates" of the past, opening up opportunities for Quang Tri to promote the value of the "red address", connecting the heroic past with the innovative present, making the relic a sacred destination in the journey back to the source, contributing to the development of local cultural-historical tourism.
The relic has been restored and embellished, including building a new memorial, a celebration house, a house displaying documents and artifacts, a waiting house and a boat dock, a parking lot, renovating and upgrading existing items such as the tiled roof of the memorial stele; gate, fence; ceremony yard and beautifying the campus..., with a total investment of nearly 20 billion VND.
In particular, the Memorial is designed to simulate the shape of a bundle of rice with 16 rice plants, the total height is 16m; the pedestal and star-shaped block is 1.6m high; the pillar is made of hot-dip steel, durable over time. The entire rice plant and details are meticulously constructed and finished with high-strength steel, paint, epoxy and firmly connected. The Memorial is solemnly placed in the center of the relic, the campus is arranged with surrounding paths, flowers and landscape.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to collectives and individuals with achievements in implementing the project to renovate the Memorial Site where 16 Youth Volunteers died (September 1972) at Long Dai Ferry Terminal II. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung presented dozens of gifts to former Youth Volunteers in Quang Tri province.
Mr. Than Duc Nam, Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans Association, presented gifts (each worth 5 million VND) to 16 relatives of martyrs who died at Long Dai Ferry Terminal II./.
