A spacious "grand arc"

After merging the three communes of Ta Van, Muong Hoa, and Hoang Hien into Ta Van commune - meaning "large arc" - it now encompasses the entire Muong Hoa valley and has ample space, rich potential, and advantages for development, especially in community tourism.

This season, the Muong Hoa Valley is entering its most beautiful time of year because the rice on the heritage terraced fields has ripened, dyeing the entire valley a shimmering golden color that captivates tourists from near and far.

Leading us to a viewpoint on Provincial Road 152 to admire the entire Muong Hoa Valley, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ta Van Commune, Cao Ba Quy, excitedly shared: "Ta Van today truly lives up to its name as a 'large arc' because after the merger, Ta Van almost completely encompasses the Muong Hoa Valley, possessing sufficient potential, strengths, and space for development, especially in agriculture and community tourism."

Ta Van commune today boasts not only the beautiful and majestic landscape of the Muong Hoa valley stretching from Y Linh Ho to the Seo Chong Ho hydroelectric power plant, but also charming villages such as Cat Cat, Lao Chai, Ta Van Mong, Sin Chai, Thao Hong Den, Hoa Su Pan… each with its own unique scenery and atmosphere, reflecting the distinctive cultural characteristics of the local ethnic communities. Many villages have been honored by prestigious domestic and international travel magazines, becoming attractive destinations for tourists from both within and outside the country.

This region is also home to the diverse cultural identities of ethnic minorities (Mong, Dao, Giay); many famous tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites (ancient stone fields, terraced rice fields, etc.) and special scenic spots (Fansipan peak - the roof of Indochina); and possesses the advantage of a cool, temperate climate and majestic, picturesque scenery... all of which have created a strong appeal, making Ta Van a typical community tourism destination, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

In fact, over the years, Ta Van commune has affirmed its position on the tourism map of Lao Cai province with many rural tourism products, community tourism, experiential tourism, cultural and ecological tourism… and supporting services that have developed in both quantity and quality. Ta Van's tourism products have contributed significantly to positioning the brand of the five-season festival series, rich in cultural identity and the scenic strengths of the Sa Pa National Tourist Area. To date, there are over 300 tourism and service businesses in the commune, including over 200 homestays. It is estimated that the number of tourists visiting the area in 2025 will reach over 1.5 million.

Mr. Cao Bá Quý, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tả Van commune, shared: "To fully appreciate the inherent beauty of this land, you have to walk along the trekking routes or follow the Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) course to see Tả Van. Besides the existing villages, we still have many 'reserves' with rich potential for tourism development, such as the Séo Mý Tỷ lake area or the pristine forests of the Hoàng Liên mountain range that have not been properly exploited."

Recognizing its potential, strengths, and position, in the new phase (2025-2030), Ta Van commune has identified sustainable community tourism development linked to poverty reduction as one of its two breakthroughs, aiming to develop and standardize distinctive community tourism products. Simultaneously, it will effectively exploit tourism products such as homestay resorts, trekking, agricultural and forestry experiential tourism combined with adventure sports and mountain climbing; and cultural tourism linked to the preservation and promotion of traditional ethnic heritage values. Importantly, tourism development will be linked to job creation for local workers and sustainable poverty reduction. The commune aims to attract over 500,000 tourists by 2030.

It is evident that Ta Van commune has placed great expectations on developing tourism within its expansive "large arc" area, but this "dream" depends heavily on relevant authorities and sectors promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles for the locality, especially in the areas of planning and attracting investment. "We hope that the locality will soon be granted decentralization in the field of general and detailed planning to provide a basis for developing projects and attracting investment. At the same time, we hope that the province will pay attention to and encourage strategic investors to come to Ta Van to implement tourism development projects that are directional, 'leading,' and create momentum for sustainable local development," added Cao Ba Quy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ta Van commune.

With its majestic landscapes, pristine nature, rich cultural identity, and vast development potential, Ta Van is poised to become a leading community-based tourism center in Lao Cai province and the Northwest region in general. The key is the concerted effort of all levels and sectors to overcome obstacles and challenges, enabling the locality to fully utilize its potential and strengths. Once freed from constraints and receiving adequate investment, Ta Van will be a shining example on the map of green tourism, developing sustainably and beautifully.
