Hometown bids farewell to its outstanding son Tran Duc Luong

On May 24, many leaders, officials and people of Quang Ngai province visited former President Tran Duc Luong in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, expressing gratitude and respect for the outstanding son of the homeland.

The funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held by Quang Ngai province at 3 locations: Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command Hall, Duc Pho Town Cultural Center Hall, and Pho Khanh Commune People's Committee Hall (Duc Pho Town), his hometown.

At exactly 8:30 a.m. on May 24, delegations of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province; Military Region 5 Command; Military Command, Public Security, Border Guard of Quang Ngai province; Quang Nam province's leadership delegation and a large number of people took turns visiting and offering incense to commemorate former President Tran Duc Luong.

In the condolence book, Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, wrote: "Deeply mourning comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo , former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a loyal communist soldier, who sacrificed and devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese people, an outstanding son of the heroic homeland of Quang Ngai...".

Mr. Pham Dinh Khoi, former Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, emotionally shared: "Since hearing the news of Mr. Tran Duc Luong's passing, I have always felt pain in my heart. Not only me but many leaders of Quang Ngai province also deeply mourn the loss of an exemplary leader, close to and devoted to his homeland."

Mrs. Tran Thi Giang (73 years old, in Quang Ngai City) emotionally recalled: "My hometown is in Pho Khanh Commune, near Uncle Tran Duc Luong's house. Later, my family moved to Quang Ngai City to live, but our feelings for our hometown and Uncle Luong are always deep." She continued: "When he was in office, every time he returned to his hometown, Uncle Luong always took time to visit his neighbors. He was simple, close, and not at all isolated. Upon hearing the news of his death, I and many people went to the Provincial Military Command Hall early, hoping to burn incense to bid farewell to the outstanding son of our homeland."

At the Duc Pho Town Cultural Center, delegations and a large number of local officials and people came to lay wreaths, offer incense, and express their respect and deep condolences for the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong. The people's feelings for the former President are not only admiration for a high-ranking leader, but also gratitude for a son who always turned to his homeland. While still working, former President Tran Duc Luong returned to visit Pho Khanh commune many times, worked with local leaders, and was always concerned about the socio-economic development of this land.

While working at the Duc Pho District Party Committee Office , Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Diem was one of the lucky ones to meet and listen to the sincere advice from former President Tran Duc Luong during his visits to his hometown. "Uncle always advised young cadres to constantly learn and practice to mature. Following his words, I tried my best and was later assigned to be the Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the City Party Committee. Hearing the news of his passing, I was deeply saddened and vowed to continue to practice and contribute so as not to disappoint him," Ms. Diem was moved.

At the People's Committee Hall of Pho Khanh Commune, the hometown of former President Tran Duc Luong, in addition to the delegations of commune leaders, there were also many people and relatives from all over the country returning to offer incense in memory. Mr. Nguyen Xu, a resident of Dien Truong Village (Pho Khanh Commune), choked up and said: "Uncle Luong is a son that the homeland is always proud of. Every time he returned to his hometown, he visited the elderly and gave gifts to poor families. He also contributed to helping the locality build many essential projects such as Dien Truong reservoir, schools, and electricity. Thanks to that, people's lives have improved day by day. Now that he is gone, we are deeply saddened."
