The section of National Highway 13 from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge, about 6 km long, was proposed by Thu Duc City authorities to be renamed April 30th Street.

The content is stated in the report on the results of Party building, government and mass mobilization work in 2023, and tasks for 2024, presented to the 21st Thu Duc City Party Committee Conference on the morning of December 18. The renaming of the road section is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Mr. Nguyen Ky Phung, Vice Chairman of Thu Duc City People's Committee, said that this policy has been approved by the Standing Committee of Thu Duc City Party Committee and supported by the Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

According to Mr. Phung, when the street name is changed, people living in this area will be affected to some extent. However, the experience of renaming a section of Hanoi Highway (nearly 8 km long from Saigon Bridge to Thu Duc intersection) to Vo Nguyen Giap in July, all related procedures were resolved very quickly.

"Currently, people no longer use paper household registration books, so procedures are much simpler," said Mr. Phung, adding that information related to traffic signs is also quickly processed by the locality in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.

National Highway 13 is over 140 km long, connecting Ho Chi Minh City through Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc. This is the main artery at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, passing through a densely populated area, connecting to the Eastern Bus Station and the inner city area, so it is often congested. On the Binh Duong side, this national highway is spacious and airy after being upgraded and expanded from 6 to 8 lanes many times. Meanwhile, the section through Ho Chi Minh City currently has only 4-6 lanes, creating a "bottleneck" and has been congested for many years.

Recently, when Ho Chi Minh City applied a special mechanism according to Resolution 98, National Highway 13, the section from Binh Trieu Bridge to the border of Binh Duong province, 5.9 km long, was expanded to 53-60 m, with a total cost of nearly 10,000 billion VND, and will be considered for implementation under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form on the existing road.
