A tractor-trailer carrying wood chips overturned on An Khe Pass on National Highway 19, connecting Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces, causing a prolonged traffic jam on the morning of January 27.
At 11:30 PM yesterday, a tractor-trailer with a Binh Dinh license plate carrying wood chips, traveling from Gia Lai to Quy Nhon, overturned on the An Khe pass. The accident caused no casualties, but the vehicle blocked the pass, causing traffic congestion.

Mr. Tran Thai Hoa, Head of Road Management Office III.4, said that as of this morning, only one lane of the An Khe pass was open to traffic. The section where the traffic jam occurred is steep and under construction for road widening, muddy, located outside residential areas, and lacks street lighting.
The line of vehicles stretched for about 10 kilometers. Authorities were directing traffic and using a tow truck to remove the overturned vehicle and clear the scene.

Two days ago, this section of road was also blocked for hours due to heavy rain, causing the road surface to become muddy and sink when heavy trucks passed through.
The 8-kilometer-long An Khê Pass is considered the most dangerous section of National Highway 19, with frequent accidents, especially at night. The pass is currently undergoing expansion from 7 to 9 meters with a total investment of 600 billion VND. In addition, the pass is also being renovated with improvements to bridges, drainage systems, and lighting; curves are being widened to improve visibility for drivers passing through the area.

National Highway 19 is 243 km long, starting from Quy Nhon port in Binh Dinh province to Le Thanh border gate in Gia Lai province. This is a vital route connecting the Central Highlands provinces with the central coastal region, with a high volume of traffic, but the road surface is narrow and in poor condition.
