Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Huynh Quoc Viet requested the Department of Industry and Trade and other departments and localities to urgently implement solutions to develop and maximize the province's potential and advantages, from services and trade, clean energy to enhancing the value of agriculture through building a linked chain from production and processing to export.
At the meeting, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Chi Thien stated that in the first quarter and the first five months of 2026, four key growth indicators of the industry decreased compared to the same period last year and did not meet the set targets. The decline was mainly concentrated in the Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Cluster.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Pham Van Thieu requested strengthening trade promotion, attracting investment, and effectively exploiting land potential and unique advantages to develop energy infrastructure, serving the socio-economic development of the locality and the country.
According to the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, in the second quarter, the production output of the Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Cluster is forecast to continue to decline sharply due to technical barriers and national-level system management. Currently, the output of enterprises in this industrial cluster accounts for about 70% of the total industrial production value of the province, thus having a significant impact on the overall growth of Ca Mau.
Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Chi Thien and members of the Board of Directors reported to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee on the development orientation of the industry in the remaining months of the year; at the same time, they seriously acknowledged the role and responsibility of the leadership team in directing and managing the work, in order to contribute to promoting the overall growth of the province.
As the head of the organization, Mr. Nguyen Chi Thien frankly accepted responsibility for the leadership, direction, and advisory work in implementing the goals and tasks that had not met expectations; he also stated that the proactiveness and effectiveness of coordination between units and localities were still limited, failing to create new momentum to compensate for the decline in growth from the Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Cluster.
In the first quarter and projected for the second quarter, production capacity at the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Cluster continued to decline, significantly impacting the province's industrial growth.
In their directives at the meeting, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee requested the Department of Industry and Trade to resolutely implement effective solutions to create breakthroughs in industrial, commercial, and export development, contributing to regaining the province's overall growth momentum in the remaining months of the year.
For tasks involving coordination with relevant sectors, specific plans need to be developed, clearly defining responsibilities, tasks, timelines, and expected outcomes; while also accelerating progress and commencing wind and gas power projects as soon as possible.
Ca Mau still has much potential and room for wind power development; however, its exploitation is not yet commensurate with its potential due to many difficulties and obstacles.
Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai requested the Department of Industry and Trade and related sectors to continue upholding a high sense of responsibility, focusing on removing bottlenecks, maximizing energy potential, and effectively exploiting development opportunities. At the same time, it is necessary to innovate thinking, enhance aspirations for progress, and be creative in strategic planning to create breakthroughs in development in the coming period.
