According to the plan, in October 2025, Vietnam will host two important regional sports events: SOMS 16 from October 13 to 15 and AMMS 8 from October 15 to 17.
This is the first time Vietnam has assumed the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN sports cooperation and the second time hosting SOMS, thereby continuing to affirm the increasingly high position of Vietnamese sports on the regional map. In addition, Vietnam will also chair expanded meetings with partners, including AMMS + Japan (5th time) and AMMS + China (2nd time).
At the meeting, the specialized departments reported on the implementation status. The Organizing Committee was established in May 2025, including the Subcommittees on content, logistics, communications and security.
Up to now, the preparation work has entered the "sprint" stage, many important tasks such as choosing the venue, preparing facilities, reception, communication, and basic event identity have been completed.
Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet emphasized the requirement that assigned units continue to speed up progress, ensuring that all stages must achieve the highest quality.
In particular, communication work, photo exhibitions and accompanying activities need to be carefully prepared. Each promotional image and video must be strictly censored in terms of content and form, contributing to spreading the event's message.
The successful organization of AMMS 8 and SOMS 16 is not only meaningful for regional sports but also an opportunity for Vietnam to contribute to shaping ASEAN sports development strategy in the coming period.
The conference is expected to define the ASEAN Sports Cooperation Framework for the 2026-2035 period, promote the connection between Sports - Economy - Culture - Health, deploy the ASEAN High Performance Sports Center, and lay the foundation for a standardized SEA Games, linked with the Olympics and major international tournaments.
As host, Vietnam not only affirms its capacity to organize international sporting events, but also expands cooperation in training athletes, coaches, and sports science research, enhancing its prestige and position in the ASEAN community as well as in the international arena.
