This is not only an opportunity to introduce the quintessence of international culture to the Vietnamese public, but also an opportunity to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to friends around the world. The brilliant cultural space of the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi will contribute to connecting countries and ethnic groups, promoting people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and trust between Vietnam and the international community; affirming the important role and contribution of culture in the process of implementing the United Nations' sustainable development goals, ensuring peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
According to Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh, “The first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi is an important initiative to honor and promote the pivotal role of culture in sustainable development; a bridge connecting nations and peoples to overcome all difficulties and challenges of conflicts, epidemics, climate change...; joining hands to bring the international community to peace and prosperity”.
The Deputy Minister also pointed out that this is the first time the event has been held in Vietnam. The idea of the festival is that Vietnam can completely become a convergence of cultures around the world. Cultural values will blend together without losing the identity of each country, but also contribute to promoting the spirit of solidarity, together contributing to global development. This is Vietnam's wish when organizing this event and is also the message that Hanoi, City for Peace, member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, sends. Specifically, the festival is held at the Central Relic Site of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long (Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center, Hanoi).
The opening ceremony was held on October 3. The closing ceremony took place on October 5. Events within the framework of the festival include the Hanoi World Culture Festival, the Hanoi international culinary program, film screenings, the Hanoi international folk dance program, the Hanoi international fine arts program, the Hanoi international costume program, the Ao Dai Festival, the Hanoi International Book Festival and related supporting activities. Currently, 48 embassies, international organizations, and foreign cultural centers in Vietnam have registered to participate in the first World Culture Festival in Hanoi. This includes 45 national cultural spaces, 33 food booths, 16 international art troupes from home and abroad, 12 units participating in book introductions, 20 countries sending films to participate in the film screening program...
Laos is the country chosen as the guest of honor of this year's festival. As the guest of honor, Laos will send a large art troupe of artists to the festival to perform special art performances. In addition, in the next editions, each year, the festival will have a country as the guest of honor of the event.
Director of the Department of Grassroots Information and External Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Pham Anh Tuan shared that people and tourists can find information about the event as well as the schedule at the website https://worldculturefestival.vn and the World Culture Festival 2025 fanpage. In particular, the Organizing Committee will digitize the Festival space so that tourists who have not had the opportunity to come to the event can also experience the brilliant cultural space this time. Convergence of cultural quintessence of continents
According to the Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Nguyen Phuong Hoa, the World Cultural Festival held for the first time in Hanoi is a breakthrough initiative, implemented in a very short time but has received strong response from the Diplomatic Corps in Vietnam. With the participation of nearly 50 embassies, international organizations, and foreign cultural centers in Vietnam, this is the largest-scale event ever among the international cultural and artistic festivals held in Vietnam. In the space of the world heritage site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, cultures of the continents converge, introducing the cultural quintessence of their people. The festival not only aims to promote Vietnamese cultural identity to international friends but also serves as a space for cultures around the world to converge, exchange and honor diversity.
“We want to introduce a Vietnam with a strong identity, while demonstrating an open spirit and willingness to selectively absorb the quintessence of world culture. This is also an opportunity for Hanoi to demonstrate its role in organizing international cultural and artistic events,” Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa shared.
Director Nguyen Phuong Hoa added that the festival chose an open approach to encourage and welcome participating countries. The Organizing Committee also offered many categories for the Diplomatic Corps to register to participate such as performing arts, cinema, fine arts, photography, folk songs, folk dances, etc. Thereby, creating conditions for countries to introduce their unique cultural features and artistic strengths. This created richness and appeal for the event. During the three-day festival, especially on the weekend, audiences and people of the capital will enjoy a series of unique Vietnamese art programs from Northern Cheo singing to the echoes of gongs from the Central Highlands, etc., along with many other unique cultural and artistic activities.
Through the event, Hanoi, with its rich heritage and innovative spirit, will continue to gradually turn traditional values into high-value cultural industrial products, attracting the attention of the international community. “This World Cultural Festival is a joint effort of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hanoi People's Committee in building a cultural and artistic brand for Hanoi. This will be an international "playground", a convergence of world civilizations, contributing to affirming Vietnam's position as an attractive cultural destination on the world map. After being held for the first time in 2025, the event will aim to become an annual international cultural diplomatic event in Hanoi,” Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa emphasized.
