Chinese robots dominate 80% of the global market.

(CLO) China is set to lead the global market for humanoid robots, accounting for over 80% of total production by 2025, according to a report by Counterpoint Research.

Data released by Counterpoint on January 14th shows that by 2025, approximately 16,000 humanoid robots will be installed globally. These devices will primarily serve data collection and research purposes, and will be deployed in logistics, manufacturing, and the automotive industry.

Counterpoint forecasts that the market size will surpass 100,000 robots by 2027, approximately six times higher than in 2025. Applications in logistics, manufacturing, and automotive are expected to account for up to 72% of total installations.

According to the research firm, the next two years will be a crucial period as many manufacturers of humanoid robots launch mass-produced commercial versions. The actual performance of these products will determine the growth rate of the entire industry.

In terms of market share, Shanghai-based AgiBot leads with 30.4% of humanoid robots installed globally in 2025. Second is Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics, with 26.4%.

Counterpoint believes that AgiBot's diverse product portfolio and open-source strategy have helped it expand commercially across multiple sectors, while Unittree has made its mark thanks to its strengths in motion control and dynamic balancing.

Other Chinese manufacturers, including UBTech Robotics and Leju Robotics, both based in Shenzhen, ranked third and fourth respectively with market shares of 5.2% and 4.9%. Elon Musk's Tesla came in fifth with 4.7%.

The Counterpoint report also reinforces Omdia's earlier conclusions, which ranked AgiBot and Unitree as the two leading companies in terms of humanoid robot shipment volume.

China's humanoid robotics industry has grown rapidly in recent years thanks to strong government support. However, in November, China's National Development and Reform Commission warned of the risk of excessive duplication of investment in the sector. Amidst increasingly fierce competition, businesses are accelerating commercialization and expanding cooperation with manufacturing industries to deploy robots on a large scale in factories.

Counterpoint also noted that some manufacturers are exploring the home market with more affordable robot models, prioritizing interaction over complex tasks. The report assessed the potential for applications in the home environment as enormous and an area that businesses do not want to miss.

In addition, the rental service for humanoid robots – currently led by AgiBot and Unitree – is expected to become increasingly popular in 2025, thanks to reduced ownership costs and the encouragement of applications in activities such as live performances.
