On September 17, Turkish divers launched a search for three firefighters missing after their helicopter crashed into a reservoir near the western city of Izmir.

Turkey's Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said the helicopter crashed while taking water from the reservoir to extinguish a forest fire on the evening of September 16.

The helicopter crew consisted of three Kyrgyz and one Turkish national. One of them, a Kyrgyz, was rescued and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Speaking on television, Minister Yumakli said divers had located the wreckage of the crashed helicopter . However, the team could not see clearly at the moment due to limited visibility.

Global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions is changing weather patterns and is partly responsible for years of drought across Türkiye.

Turkey has focused resources on emergency response efforts after a 2021 wildfire disaster killed nine people.

After this disaster, the Turkish Government invested in purchasing fire-fighting planes and helicopters./.
