At the close of the morning session on December 16th, the VN-Index fell 7.9 points to 1,638.11 points. Trading volume reached over 280.3 million shares, equivalent to a value of over 8,655.2 billion VND. Across the HOSE exchange, 89 stocks increased in price, 196 decreased, and 59 remained unchanged, indicating that selling pressure continued to prevail.
On the HNX exchange, the HNX-Index edged up 0.08 points to 249.45 points. Trading volume reached over 28.4 million shares, equivalent to a value of over 557.3 billion VND. However, declining stocks still outnumbered rising stocks with 86, while only 19 increased and 52 remained unchanged.
The UPCOM-Index fell 0.26 points to 118.29 points. Trading volume reached over 16 million shares, equivalent to over 273.6 billion VND. Across the entire exchange, there were 74 gainers, 90 losers, and 79 unchanged stocks.
Looking at the sectors, real estate stocks plunged into the red; many large-cap stocks such as VIC, VHM, VRE, KDH... all declined. The banking sector – a pillar of the market – also performed poorly, with most stocks falling. The securities sector also saw negative performance, with red dominating.
In the insurance sector, only PVI maintained its upward momentum, while a series of stocks such as MIG, BIC, VNR , PRE, BMI, and BVH all traded in the red. The telecommunications and information technology sectors also followed the general trend, with all stocks declining.
Contrary to the market trend, the oil and gas sector emerged as a rare bright spot. Except for PLX, which saw a slight decrease, stocks like PVB, TOS, PVS, BSR , PVD, OIL, and PTV all rose in price, helping to mitigate some of the overall market decline.
Overall, the price fluctuations of stocks during the morning session were not significant, while liquidity remained low. This development reflects the hesitation of investors in the absence of sufficiently strong supporting information to create a clear recovery momentum.
