Through this photo collection, viewers are guided from the bustling and vibrant scenes of Saigon's markets and bus stations in the early 1990s, to the time-worn windows of apartment buildings, and to the everyday lives of people spanning many years alongside the country's development.
Born during a time of peace, and having lived, studied, and worked in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for over 20 years, Nguyen Thanh Tung captures life in the city through the lens of a former journalist, a photographer, and, moreover, a young citizen of the post-liberation generation. In each photograph, regardless of the subject matter, the author captures authentic and vibrant moments of Saigon's scenery and people.
Even as time passes, the streets, alleys, architectural structures, and daily life here always reflect the character of the people of Saigon, the character of Southern Vietnam, in every moment: sincere, simple, unpretentious, yet possessing a strong inner strength and a positive way of life. A Saigon that is open, generous, and magnanimous.
Saigon of yesterday is filled with beautiful images and memories that will never fade from the hearts of every Saigonese person.
