Salah ends Man City player's dominance in Premier League

After helping Liverpool win their 20th Premier League title, Salah was voted player of the season by fans and a panel of English football experts.

He tops an eight-man shortlist that includes team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, alongside Morgan Gibbs-White, Chris Wood (Nottingham), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) and Declan Rice (Arsenal).

This is the second time Salah has received this prestigious award, the first time being in the 2027-18 season. The Egyptian striker has thus become the fifth person to win this award twice, after Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Kevin De Bruyne.

This award is the result of the Egyptian's tireless efforts after a season leading the Premier League's top scorer list with 28 goals and 18 assists for Liverpool as of round 37.

With 46 assists, the Liverpool striker has set a record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season. The previous record belonged to Thierry Henry in the 2003-04 season and Erling Haaland in the 2022-23 season with 44 assists and goals.

Going into Liverpool's final game of the season, Salah is just two assists shy of the record for most assists. The list is led by Thierry Henry (2002-03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20), both with 20 assists. The Egyptian will have the chance to equal this record in the final game of the season against Crystal Palace on the evening of May 25.

Despite turning 32, Salah is still the 5th highest scorer in the Premier League with 185 goals and the highest foreign scorer in Premier League history, surpassing Sergio Aguero (184 goals). He is also 3rd in the list of players with the most goals in Liverpool's history (244 goals) in all competitions.

With his 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Year award, Salah has broken a run of five consecutive seasons in which a Manchester City player has won the award. The Egyptian forward now has his sights set on the Ballon d'Or and continuing to write his legacy as one of football's all-time greats.
