Noi Bai airport closure extended on September 7

Based on the developments of the super typhoon, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam decided to extend the suspension of aircraft operations at Noi Bai airport by 2 hours, specifically from 10:00 to 21:00 on September 7.

Anticipating the possibility of heavy rain at Noi Bai airport after the storm, with a high density of take-offs and landings, the Civil Aviation Authority has requested airlines to add extra fuel for flights between 9pm on September 7 and 2am on September 8 in case they have to wait and divert to an alternate airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam assigned aviation meteorological service providers to continue to regularly monitor and update meteorological bulletins and forecast the time when airports can resume operations.

In case the airport can be put into operation early, the aviation meteorological agency shall promptly report to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to adjust the operating time of the airports accordingly.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also assigned the General Director of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to develop a flight management plan for Noi Bai International Airport after the storm, ensuring harmonious flight operations based on the principle of prioritizing long-distance flights, international flights, and domestic flights.

For the functional departments of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the Air Transport Department is assigned to fully meet the take-off and landing times of the compensated flights due to the impact of storm No. 3.

At Noi Bai International Airport, units operating here are coordinating to implement a series of measures to respond to storm No. 3.

Accordingly, the port and units dredge ditches, clear water flows, ensure rapid drainage, prevent local flooding in the airport area; reinforce all weak fence positions; trim tall trees adjacent to the airport area fence.

At the same time, the units cleaned the aircraft anchoring holes; coordinated with airlines, aircraft lashing units, and ground equipment; increased control to ensure that the wind did not blow them away...

Noi Bai International Airport Emergency Command Center and units operating at the port are on duty 24/7 to ensure coordination and quick handling of emergency situations.

Noi Bai International Airport also advised passengers to contact the airline to update information on changes to their flights, ensuring safety before, during and after the storm.

Hundreds of flights canceled, operating schedules adjusted

In the face of super typhoon Yagi, airlines in Vietnam also issued recommendations to customers with flights on September 7 and 8.

Specifically, Vietnam Airlines said that more than 110 of its flights will be canceled and operating hours adjusted. Accordingly, the airline will cancel 34 flights and adjust the operating hours of 78 other domestic and international flights.

The airline said that flight times may still change depending on the storm's developments, so passengers should continue to monitor and update information. Further schedule adjustments will be announced by Vietnam Airlines and customers through the contact information on their tickets.

Vietjet also announced the temporary suspension of 67 flights to and from Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) from 10:00 to 19:00 on September 7.
