Since the beginning of 2026, almost every time a delegation visits the island, Lieutenant Phan Dinh Hai, Commander of Detachment 85, has participated in the cultural exchange programs. Possessing a strong, emotional singing voice and a confident performance style, he is considered by his comrades to be the "cultural hub" of the island. Outside of duty hours, he often takes time to practice singing and rehearse with his comrades to prepare for performances.

Lieutenant Phan Dinh Hai shared: “I know quite a few songs, but my favorite is 'One Round Around Vietnam' by composer Dong Thien Duc because the lyrics are relatable and full of love for my homeland. I also teach many songs to the young soldiers for them to share. Through the lyrics, they understand more about their homeland, life, and their responsibility to the country.”

Through our research, we learned that most of the young officers and soldiers on Son Ca Island are capable of participating in various modern dance and folk dance performances. Weekly, the platoons take turns practicing during their free time. Each team usually has 6 to 8 members, flexibly balancing their duties, professional tasks, and cultural performances. On weekend evenings, the music echoing across the island's courtyard creates a lively and friendly atmosphere.

Sergeant Le Truong Hiep, Squad Leader of Detachment 2, Combat Group 1, said that the members mainly practice to pre-recorded music under the guidance of unit officers. Difficult movements are practiced slowly and meticulously, beat by beat; while simpler movements are practiced by the members themselves after their duty shifts. Before each performance, the entire team practices together to create synergy. After their duties, singing and dancing together helps the team relax and strengthen their bonds.

On Son Ca Island, in addition to training and combat readiness, officers and soldiers also participate in caring for trees and building the environmental landscape as part of the "Greening Truong Sa" program. The heavy workload and harsh weather conditions make weekend cultural and artistic activities even more meaningful. The singing and music help each officer and soldier feel more optimistic to start a new week of work. Speaking with reporters, Captain Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Political Officer of Combat Group 2, said that the Son Ca Island Youth Union has effectively maintained many activities such as cultural exchanges, comrades' birthday celebrations, and youth forums... These activities create a beneficial playground for union members and young people after hours of hard work, contributing to helping officers and soldiers feel secure in their work and successfully complete their assigned tasks.

As we bid farewell to Son Ca Island, the sound of farewell music echoing in the distance further reinforced our appreciation for the optimistic spirit of the island's soldiers. Amidst the turbulent waves, the songs and melodies not only eased their longing for the mainland but also provided them with the motivation to stand firm at the forefront, protecting the sacred sovereignty of our nation's seas and islands.
