On the afternoon of June 2nd, many pickleball players at a court on Tran Xuan Soan Street, Tan Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, were surprised to witness rainwater pouring down like a waterfall from the roof area, rendering some courts unusable. Images recorded at the scene show a large volume of water flooding the playing area, creating a thick curtain of water.
The video , shared on social media, quickly attracted the attention of the pickleball community. Many expressed concerns about safety issues when the court was flooded, posing a risk of slipperiness and affecting the playing experience.
Speaking to Tri Thức - Znews about the incident, a representative of the stadium in question stated that the cause stemmed from a prolonged period of heavy rain on June 2nd, combined with some unforeseen technical issues in the infrastructure.
Immediately after the incident, the unit announced a temporary suspension of operations for inspection and repair.
"We are temporarily suspending operations to conduct inspections, repairs, and upgrades to our facilities before reopening," a stadium representative said.
The venue also apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused to training, socializing, and competition plans in recent days. According to a representative of the venue, the technical team is urgently addressing related issues to ensure stable and safe operation before reopening.
The incident occurred amidst a period of heavy, widespread rain in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of June 2nd. Reports indicate that many areas of the city experienced prolonged thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, causing localized flooding on some roads and disrupting the daily lives and businesses of residents.
The Southern Vietnam Regional Hydrometeorological Station reported that thunderstorms in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding provinces occurred due to strong southwest monsoon winds, combined with a low-pressure trough and favorable convection conditions. Rainfall in many areas reached relatively high levels in a short period, increasing the risk of localized flooding.
The meteorological agency forecasts that in the first days of June, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to experience thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, and residents should be wary of extreme weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
