The scorching heatwave in the North is about to end.

TPO - Forecasts indicate that from late afternoon and evening of May 27th, the North will begin to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, helping to slightly reduce temperatures after a series of exceptionally intense heatwaves. Hanoi will experience rain later, around late afternoon/evening of May 28th.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the northern region will experience a few cooler days before widespread heat returns.

Specifically, from the evening of May 27th, scattered thunderstorms began to appear in the North, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain. However, the rain was only localized in a few areas, not a widespread heavy downpour. Many places still maintained a feeling of muggy weather.

Before scattered thunderstorms, May 27th continued to experience exceptionally intense heat with the highest temperatures in the Northern Delta and Phu Tho reaching 38-40 degrees Celsius, and in some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius; in mountainous and midland areas, temperatures ranged from 36-38 degrees Celsius, and in some places exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.

On May 28th, the heatwave in Northern Vietnam will slightly decrease in intensity and scope. Specifically, the highest temperatures in the Northern delta and midland areas will be 35-37 degrees Celsius, while in the mountainous areas of Northern Vietnam, the highest temperatures will only be 33-35 degrees Celsius.

Forecasts indicate scattered showers and thunderstorms in the North from the evening of May 28th to May 30th, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. As a result, the weather in the North will be more pleasant from May 29th to 31st, with maximum temperatures only ranging from 32-34 degrees Celsius.

From around June 1st, widespread heatwaves will return to the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam.

Hanoi will continue to experience exceptionally intense heat on May 27th, with maximum temperatures reaching 38-40 degrees Celsius, and even exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some areas. On May 28th, Hanoi will remain hot with temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius. From late afternoon and evening on May 28th, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in Hanoi, with localized moderate to heavy rainfall.

The meteorological agency specifically noted that thunderstorms occurring after periods of exceptionally intense heat pose a very high risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

In Central Vietnam on May 27th, Thanh Hoa to Hue continued to experience intense and exceptionally intense heat with maximum temperatures commonly reaching 38-40 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some areas. The South Central coastal region experienced widespread heat with temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 39 degrees Celsius in some places.

On May 28th, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue experienced intense heat, with some places experiencing exceptionally severe heat, with maximum temperatures commonly ranging from 37-39 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. The South Central coastal region also experienced heat with temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.

Forecasts indicate that from around May 29th to May 31st, temperatures in Central Vietnam will cool down, with only localized heatwaves reaching approximately 35-36 degrees Celsius.

However, from June 1st, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue is likely to experience widespread heatwaves again, while the South Central coastal region will have scattered thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening in the coming days, with localized moderate to heavy rain.

The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam will maintain typical rainy season weather patterns in the coming days, with sunny days, and rain, moderate rain, and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, with localized heavy rain in some areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
