Specifically, the second-generation Xiaomi Mi Box S has appeared on Xiaomi's retail website. It's possible the company will release the product globally.
Although this upgraded version isn't drastically different from its predecessors, it still boasts powerful performance with a quad-core Cortex-A55 chipset and Mali-G31 MC2 GPU. These are significant improvements over the Mi Box S 2018, which included a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and outdated and sluggish Mali-450 graphics. The 2023 version of the Mi Box is expected to address these remaining issues.
The Mi Box S Gen 2 runs the Google TV interface instead of Android TV. The device still comes with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM. It also boasts notable specifications such as Bluetooth 5.2, 4K/60fps playback, Dolby Vision support, integrated HDR10+, and a 3.5mm port.
This product will not support AV1 or external microSD cards, but it does have a USB 2.0 port. Users can easily plug in an external hard drive or flash drive via this port. This will be a welcome change from Google TV Chromecast, which requires a USB-C hub to expand storage.
